The central objective of this dissertation is to examine the structural and historical aspects of the book work Poemóbiles (1974), by Augusto de Campos and Julio Plaza. In order to do so, studies were carried out concerning the International Concrete Poetry Movement, a movement of the avant-garde that began in the 1950s, and its historical-literary antecedents which, based on the invention, sought to give a new form to poetry and literature. It was also tried to understand the processes of production and edition of Poemóbiles and its poetics, in the studies on the Concrete Poetry, like the Teoria da Poesia Concreta (1975), of Décio Pignatari, Haroldo and Augusto de Campos; the book Concrete Poetry: a World View (1970), by Mary Ellen Solt; and the comprehensive studies of Gonzalo Aguilar, Philadelpho Menezes, Décio Pignatari and Marjorie Perloff; as well as in the author's critical fortune, in the books Sobre Augusto de Campos (2004) and Do céu do futuro (2006); and also to investigate the field of study of the artist book and its particularities. In order to conduct these reflections, we propose the analysis of the book in addition to a three-dimensional poems book, but also as an artist's book, under the light of the theories of that area, based on the researches of Paulo Silveira's Brazilian artist's book; of the reflections of Amir Brito Cadôr; in the relation between concrete poetry and artist's book, by Ulises Carrión; and in the book concepts explained by Drucker, Phillpot, and Moeglin-Delcroix, which ultimately helps us to reflect how to point out ways to somehow converge between concrete poetry and the art of the book.

This dissertation approaches the representation of women in the construction of the discourse that is perceived in the narrative and conceptual processes performed by the character Lara Croft, at the game franchise Tomb Raider. This research was based on the Grammar of Visual Design, which is mainly related to aspects of nonverbal language connecting technology to speech. The objective of this work is to identify the representation of women through the protagonist, it comprises a timeline from 1996 to 2016, observing the changes of the character over 20 years time in terms of visual resources, and the discourses related to women involved in these representations. This dissertation was developed through a descriptive and interpretative qualitative research method, and has a historical background to establish the representation of women showed in the evolution of the composition of the protagonist`s image, which was based on three basic axes: the Social Semiotic Theory of language; the Critical Discourse Analysis; and the theory of social representations. The primary sources, composed by eleven games, present the object to be analyzed, Lara Croft. The corpus was delimited by the relevance of the character within the culture of the digital games as well as in other areas such as: cinema, comics and toys. All corpus games were played, protagonist actions were compiled in a catalogue, images were separated, and all of them were analyzed. The different semiotic modes and resources used in the composition of the character and her actions were identified and analyzed from the perspective of the Social Semiotic Theory of language focusing on the ideational metafunction, in order to perceive the semiotic potential produced by the signs, as well as the discursive senses presented by the elements in the representation of women. The results pointed out to the representation of an idealized woman who approaches the male universe, being an erotic, seductive, dangerous and empowered woman. She moves through both patterns desired by men as well as changes that come up in the society concerning female empowerment. It is important that the receivers of the message be aware of the discourses that are implicit in the images so that they will not consume entertainment in an uncritical way, thus allowing a break down of representations rooted in the society.

This research describes the application of a pedagogical cycle of tasks, written and oral productions, as well as note-taking strategies (MAYER, 1978; CARRIER, 1983) and student’ self-transcription (JAFARI et al., 2016; STONES, 2014), as new teaching and learning tools for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) (KLUGE & REIS, 2011; LOPES, 2011; SIEGEL, 2016; AHMANI & SADEGHI, 2011; SONG, 2011; TSAI & WU, 2010, YANG; LIN, 2015). Therefore, this study analyzes the Second Language Acquisition process of 18 students, using the Task-based Teaching and Learning approach (TBTL), applying an instructional cycle to take and use notes, record and transcribe interviews. Otherwise, the research has been conducted as a qualitative and participative ethnographic research in which the participants are High School’ students. On the one hand, the data collection was carried out using a variety of instruments: a questionnaire, the student and teacher evaluations and self-evaluations about the Role Plays performed (RPGs), the students' written and oral (collaborative and individual) productions, and my field notes. On the other hand, the analysis of the data collected has highlighted the characteristics of the participants’ Second Language Acquisition: dynamism of process, frequency of external words used, self-regulation and restructuration. (LARSEN-FREEMAN, 1997; LARSEN-FREEMAN & CAMERON, 2008; MERCER, 2013, DÖRNYEI, 2000; ELLIS, 2005; 2009). Thus, we conclude that the Task-based Teaching (TBT) and Learning (TBL) approach have an impact on the participants' Second Language Acquisition process (ELLIS, 2003; DOUGHTY, 2003; WILLIS & WILLIS, 2007).

Within the current national educational scenario, the teaching of English in Brazil, in a certain way, seeks to establish an integration with digital technology. This leads the school to think students outside the classroom, focusing their role in society. As far as schools make this move, they facilitate the learning process, increase students´ expectation and success, make the curriculum meaningful and stimulate motivation, agency and autonomy development (KALANTZIS; COPE, 2010). In this way, learning is extended beyond the classroom and takes place anywhere at any time (COPE; KALANTZIS, 2008). Learner becomes agent of his/her own knowledge and connect learning to his/her own experiences and interests. In order to investigate autonomous students´ motivation departing from their beliefs and actions related to digital technology use to learn English outside school, this study proposed an applied nature research with qualitative approach and exploratory orientation, using a multiple case study design. The study was conducted at a private regular school in Sete Lagoas, MG/ Brazil, called SESI, from elementary and high school students who declared to use the internet as an autonomous English learning strategy, and accepted to participate. By analyzing a recorded semi-structured interview, applied to each participant: (1) students´ beliefs were elicited (2) students’ actions involving digital technology use to practice or learn English were identified; and (3) motivational elements emergent from the data were highlighted. These motivational elements influence on students´ probable learning was discussed. It was possible to verify that motivation and autonomy are totally inter-related and such inter-relation reflects on and upon students´ beliefs. It was realized that most autonomous students are also the most motivated ones. Students´ motivation enhance due to their outof-class learning success and this fact stimulates even further the progress of students´ autonomy development.

This research aims to analyze the discursive aspects of the narratives of the Brazilian printed coverage about the Gulf War (1990-1991). More specifically, it intends to investigate the discursive strategies used by the Folha de S. Paulo and O Globo newspapers to bring the war event closer to the reality of the Brazilian reader. Thus, it was analyzed the constitution of the mediatic frames of the Gulf War and their possible effects of meaning, observing a possible influence of a communication situation in the construction of these narratives, especially with regard to the constitution of the event and its actors. To answer the problematization that moves this work, a dialogue was established between the studies of Discourse Analysis of the French line with those of the Communication – more precisely, the main theoretical and methodological apparatus adopted was the Semiolinguistic Theory, by the French researcher Patrick Charaudeau, in relation to some concepts from the journalistic field (such as the theoretical reflections around the frameworks and the criteria of noticiability), as well as the notions about the Argumentative Dimension, postulated by Ruth Amossy, which were also essential for the analysis. For a better contextualization and understanding of the intentions that rule the Communication Contract, it was explained about the event of the Gulf War according to some authors in the field of Political Sciences and International Relations, besides what is already known about war journalism as a journalistic practice, according to the perspective of researchers from the academic field of Communication itself. In relation to the analysis, we first observed the argumentative dimension underlying the temporality marks and their effects of meaning and, later, the construction of images of the "characters" of the media narratives about the Gulf War. Then, we analyzed the possible effects of meaning transmitted through the use of historical and/or didactic information as arguments to refer to an event that emerged in that specific actuality. In addition, it was studied how thematization could be configured as a strategy of proximity between the war and the Brazilian public-reader. In this way, we analyzed which themes were predominant in media coverage and, from this, how the Gulf War became news in Brazil, according to the two newspapers mentioned. It was also sought to discuss the role of the emotions present in narratives about war offensives – or rather, to analyze a possible argumentative dimension from the mobilization of elements that can carry a certain content of drama. The results of this research show that emotions are one of the main components of war narratives, especially detailed descriptions and certain reported speaks, which can be considered a strategy of capture and pregancia. In addition, a narrative about "a fight of good versus evil" was predominated, accordding to the constitution of an aggressive image of Saddam Hussein's Iraq and of a "saving" representation of the George Bush's United States, which was verified especially through the speaks reports attributed to the agents involved in the event of the Gulf War. In this way, it was possible to identify a certain partiality in the media coverage of the analyzed newspapers.

Globalization and internet popularization processes have profoundly affected the learning and use of English as a foreign language (L2) in Brazil and around the world (TAVARES, 2015). Our hypothesis is that there are new reasons to learn and use English in daily communication exchanges and online social networking platforms like Facebook, for example, which functions as an inviting environment for language research in general (PAGE et al., 2014; DAVIES, 2015). The objective of this study was to investigate the reasons why non-native English speakers seek to learn and/or use language nowadays, by evidencing the motivational components present in language learning narratives. The theoretical foundation for this research is on contributions of the motivational theory in Applied Linguistics in its sociodynamic perspective, represented especially by Gardner's (2010), Dörnyei’s (2005; 2009; 2017), Dörnyei and Ushioda’s (2011), Dörnyei and Ryan’s (2015), and Bambirra’s (2009, 2016, 2017a; 2017b) work. This is an applied research, whose data collection was carried out in the page Humans of All Accents, created on Facebook for the purposes of this research. Narratives of English language learning and usage were analyzed by categories which were created based on Dörnyei and Ryan (2015) and Dörnyei (2017), following the methodology of L2 learning experiences proposed and consolidated in Brazil by Miccoli (1997-2018) and associates. The results indicate that issues related to learners’ beliefs and feelings about themselves (their self-concept) stand out on the other motivational influences. These identity aspects are deeply contextualized in time and space, by means of internal and external events and/or circumstances related to those who narrate their experiences (MICCOLI; BAMBIRRA s/d). We conclude that motivation, as a dynamic experience, consists of experiences of different natures that nestle together (MICCOLI; LIMA, 2012), forming and theoretically expanding what Dörnyei (2009; 2011) understands as motivational constellations, conglomerates or amalgams.

In Japan, there have been fashion magazines for longer than we think, the first one is dated from the 17th year of the Meiji Era (1884). After that, more than 150 publications were launched subsequently, thus the Japanese publishing market of fashion magazine was borning. At that time, the journals were known as women's magazines, but they already had a special feature that remains until nowadays: its segmentation in extremely specific niches. At the beginning, in the Meiji Era, it was possible to recognize about 10 groups of different publications, from those that served as guide for the good wife to those that focused on literature for women. Even in times of extreme crisis, as in the war years, 1939 to 1945, this market did not dissolve, it only changed and adapted to the events of each era, surviving until the presente days with more than 257 titles aimed at women from different ages, diverse social styles and positions. The present research analyzes the editorial content of Japanese women’s magazines in order to understand in what ways the relations betwee this media and the identity of the women consumers of this contente are established.

The late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries witnessed major changes in how we interact and communicate, largely due to the use of digital technology. With its democratization, the ways in which people produce meaning in social practices also change (KRESS, 2006). In this context, Kalantzis and Cope (2009) and Cope and Kalantzis (2010) remark the emergence of Participatory Generation in schools, due to the agentive and autonomous posture assumed increasingly by students, breaking with the traditional authoritarian teaching paradigm, centered on the teacher, according to which teaching is knowledge transferring. In order to understand the production of meaning currently made by adolescent students in the interior of Minas Gerais, this research, of an applied nature, qualitative approach and exploratory orientation, was proposed in a multicase study format. We have the voluntary participation of nine English students between 12 and 16 years old, enrolled in a private English course in Matozinhos/MG. The data collection process comprehended: the production of two home videos, created in English by the participants, in two moments - beginning and end of the semester; as well as the collection of a semi-structured interview with each participant, at the end of the semester. We sought to identify with the data analysis: (1) how each literacy manifested itself in the videos; (2) whether the participants developed multiliteracies and, if so, how and at what knowledge process of the pedagogy of design; and also (3) whether participants can be recognized as belonging to the Participatory Generation. When comparing videos 1 and 2, it was possible to notice that, in general, in the elaboration of video 1, participants failed to observe the main characteristics of the genre ‘personal profile’ and its conditions of textual production in video format, favoring the linguistic mode of representation. After experiencing the processes of knowledge (COPE; KALANTZIS, 2012; 2015): 'experiencing', 'conceptualizing' and 'analyzing', in which they had feedback from their colleagues, participants produced video 2. In this production, they used all other modes of representation (KRESS; VAN LEEUWEN, 2006), in a more balanced way in relation to the use of the linguistic mode, surpassing, to a greater or lesser extent, the deficiencies of the previous production. Finally, it was verified that, in the case of this research, the knowledge process that more broadly fostered multiliteracies development was 'analyzing'. It was through it that the participants consolidated the theoretical knowledge built in the phases of 'experiencing' and 'conceptualizing'. This seems to make evident the singular importance of reflection to learning a foreign language, as defended, among many others, Arruda and Bambirra (2008) and Bambirra (2009). Furthermore, it was possible to characterize the participants as representatives of the Participatory Generation, since all of them presented at least four of the six characteristics that define the concept, according to pre-established criteria of analysis.

This dissertation aims to analyze translations of two novels and two poetic anthologies done by Paulo Henriques Britto. Our goal is to find characteristics of Britto’s decisions, allowing us to identify the presence of the translator in the text. To achieve our goal, the first chapter is dedicated to distinguish author and translator. Based on Foucault, we discuss the function of the author and, in Benjamin, the translator’s function. Once both functions happen through the text, we debate text creation, based on Barthes. We assume the text as an intertextual environment, where author and translator have their actions made inside this diverse context. Paulo Henriques Britto is our practical example of the translator’s presence in the text, and because of that we dedicate a moment to analyze his writing as an author and his opinions as an academic in Translation Studies. It is our aim to find characteristics in Britto’s translations that will resemble his original writing, for doing so, we relate his translator’s practice to the theory he defends, by reading not only his translations, but also his academic and authorial papers. Translation is part of a publication process which includes not only those who directly work in book edition, but sustain a close relation with all of those who participate in the literature’s productions. Using Lefevere’s concept of rewriting and noticing literature as a polisystem as Zohar establishes, we dedicate a chapter to the editorial and textually parallel analyses of novels and anthologies that will be compared. We propose a research whose goal is discussing how originals and translations relate, comparing theory to practice by considering not only the text, but also the editions and the connection between author and translator. This paper aims to identify how does the translator’s presence coexists with the author’s in foreign translated works, suggesting a double authorship, even though theories claim for the invisibility of the translator in the text.

The activities of selection, organization, hierarchization and construction of coherent narratives concern the work of a curator, a profession that arose connected to the visual arts in environments such as museums and galleries. In contemporary times, such practice, which still lacks bibliographic delimitation and even recognition (as in Brazil), was appropriated by several areas, such as the Editing field. The purpose of this study is to understand aspects of the work of a curator in order to assist the demarcation of a territory of action and, at the same time, to observe how a Literature event, more specifically the Fórum das Letras de Ouro Preto, uses important elements to curation to congregate activities that bring together exponents of Literature and many other cultural activities. Our text is structured in eight chapters. In the first four chapters we present a historical and current panel of curation. In the fifth, we present the methodological trajectories; and in the last three chapters we observed the Fórum in the context of Literature events in Brazil, reconstructing the memory of the event and observing, from a transdisciplinary perspective, the appropriation of curation in the practices of this literary festival. The study was developed from a qualitative and exploratory approach, which involved the techniques of bibliographic research (especially regarding curation) and a case study, undertaken from an in-depth and semi-structured interview with the founder and curator of the event of the city of Ouro Preto/Brazil. At the end, and based on our analysis of the curation of the Forum das Letras, we identified how the event is endowed with curatorial power as an intellectual, creative and integrative work among diverse semiotic systems. At the same time, we traced the paths of contemporary curation, which increasingly opens the way for dialogue between disciplines and enables future appropriations, especially in literary and editorial spaces.

This dissertation proposes to analyze how the myth of Lilith, extensively known in the literary framework, is represented in the film Lilith's Awekening (2016), from the Brazilian director Monica Demes. Aspects such as photography, dream structure and the development curve of the character in the plot are going to be analyzed, considering the question of the horror genre and the concept of monstrous, considering the concern of the valorization of a cinema made by women, still little discussed in the academy. The work also deals with the fascination caused by the vampire figure from the female body in fiction and the traces of surrealism in the film, from the plot and aesthetic aspects.

The subject of this research is enunciative subjectivity. Its general objective is to analyze in the materiality of the written text the linguistic marks responsible for making explicit evaluations or comments formulated on elements of the thematic content, based on the hypothesis that every empirical text is marked by linguistic traits representative of the decisions taken by the agent -producer, triggered by the communicative situation. To this end, the linguistic modifying units were analyzed as evidence of the representations of the enunciators, in the elaboration of the textual genre Police Report produced in formative instance (military school). The texts that were part of the corpus were produced and collected in two distinct didactic stages: writing and rewriting steps. For the analysis of the data, we adopted the theoretical and methodological framework of Sociodiscursive Interactionism (BRONCKART, 1999, 2006, 2008), specifically regarding the third level of textual architecture, that is, at the level of declarative accountability mechanisms. In the course of analysis, we aim to: a) compare the texts from the initial stage with those from the final stage, to identify whether there was an increase, reduction, maintenance or absence of the logical, deontic, appreciative and pragmatic modifications; b) analyze the movements of increase, reduction, maintenance or absence of the marks of modifications in the texts produced in the two stages, seeking to raise hypotheses that justify the decisions made by the agent-producer; c) analyze the contributions of modifying brands to the identification of the social role that the agent-producer plays in the interlocutive act; d) list the strategies of declarative departure found in the corpus and compare them with the strategies of approximation triggered by the linguistic modifying marks, in order to obtain other data that contribute to the understanding about the process of construction of the social profile of the agent-producer. We observed that the texts produced in the final stage registered a greater number of linguistic modifying marks indicative of the social profile played by the agent-producer in the interlocutive act and, above all, provided important data to understand some unfolding of the production process of a textual genre Police Report whose writing practice was not known by the students participating in the research, since they were still in the stage of preparation for the effective practice of military work. We conclude that the writing and rewriting practices of the texts have been efficient in the process of writing skills of the Police Report and that there is a need to implement, in the discipline that works the said genre, teaching practices that lead the student to use the modalizations as an argumentative strategy.

This research intends to analyze the discursive ethé present in Dilma Rousseff’s political pronouncements. From the selection of three pronouncements, which represent and belong to specific and distinct moments of the government of the Brazilian ex-president, we seek to identify the strategies of political discourse and investigate how they were mobilized to construct discursive ethé. The theme approaches discussions about political discourse, feminine gender and sociodiscursive imaginaries. The analysis is conducted from the collection of the corpus in the audiovisual media. The decision considers important polysemic aspects, such as gestures, intonation and visual presentation, which can be observed from the details that the audiovisual offers. In the theoretical course, we initially support reflections on democracy with Bobbio (1986), on the public sphere in Arendt (2014), Habermas (1984, 2011), Fraser (1990), Benhabib (1992), on the erasure of women as public and political figure with Wollstonecraft (2016), Pateman (1993), Teles (1999) and Moraes (2003). Then, we discuss the strategies of political discourse from Charaudeau (2006), Piovezani (2009) and Courtine (2006), and relate them to some argument sctructures studied by Amossy (2007, 2011, 2018), Perelman and Olbrechts-Tyteca (1996), Ferreira (2010), Abreu (2009) and Maingueneau (2001, 2005, 2008). We also observe the construction of the statements with Benveniste (1995) and the biographical dimension in political discourses with Arfuch (2010), Butler (2017) and Machado (2011, 2012, 2013). In the methodology, we combine contributions of the Discourse Analysis of French orientation and Argumentation to list categories of analysis. The analyzes point to the existence of mutuals ethé to the three pronouncements, and specifics ethé to each of the communicative situations, responsible for creating the image of the politician. We see that the construction of ethos necessarily passes through an interdiscursive medium and is done by linguistic resources, as collective imaginaries about Brazil and public management, values and anti-values, biographical moments. All of them converge to seek the president legitimacy. We observe that Dilma Rousseff's self-image is mobilized, in all three pronouncements, in an inseparable way to the defense of democracy.

Fanfictions can be defined as fictional stories created, edited and published by fans in digital environments, called fandoms. The people interested in this practice write collaboratively and create narratives that combine different languages. From this process of writing emerge strategies of texts editing that contribute in the release of the stories published. These strategies were used as baseline for the creation of a dynamics of collaborative writing, which was proposed and executed in a languages class. Therefore, this dissertation analyzes the texts produced by the students and their perceptions about the adaptation of this practice to the school enviroment. In order to investigate if the hypothesis that considers the viability of the transposition of fanfictions processes into a school environment can be confirmed. The methodological follow the guidelines of Minayo (2007) and Hissa (2012) about research and creative methodologies. The theoretical reference of this study is based mainly on the theoretical ones that deal with the fanfictions (ALVES, 2015, PARIS, 2018, JENKINS, 2015, VARGAS, 2005), the New Literacies (SOARES, 2004, KLEIMAN, 2010; STREET, 2012) and Collaborative Writing (PINHEIRO, 2011, CARVALHO, 2015, PAIVA, 2014 and LOWRY, 2004). Theresults and analyzes show that a strategy of collaborative writing based on fanfictions production methods is an efficient education tool, because it contributed significantly to the textual production of the students. The conclusions also point out that the different interaction among the students, provided by the stages of the dynamics, reshaped their positions in the processes of collaborative writing, in order to generate a greater engagement in the production of the texts. A circle of textual production, as a result of the interpretations constructed by the research, also contributes to the confirmation of the hypothesis of this study, showing that it is possible to transpose the processes of fanfictions production to the classroom and obtain significant results.

The millennial practice of storytelling has been used in Brazil as a strategy to incentive and train readers. Inspiring pathways toward literature and ignites a passion for reading. This research investigated the performance of four story tellings in public spaces at Belo Horizonte city. The aim (problematic?) was – how the story telling practice, characterized through the orality is related with our contemporaneity characterized for the letter culture (?) and the strong presence of visuality. Was investigated the hypothesis of the telling stories in the actuality at urban centers – even though not at learning spaces – can increase the number of readers. And if the orality mark in our actual society and present in the telling stories has been used towards the development of writing practices. Our specific objectives were identifying the city spaces where storytelling is done, characterized and analyzed the type of stories telling and their objectives. To the proposed research was performed a semi-structured interviews with the stories telling and followed by the filming of two sessions for each story telling. As a theoretical basis, Walter Benjamin 's conception of narrator, Paul Zumthor's concepts of orality and performance, and Celso Sisto 's contemporary storyteller studies were used. Despite of the practice of storytelling practice approach the listener of the reading, we found that the story tellings have different objectives and don’t have the specific purpose of forming or incentive readers. Among the four accountants surveyed, in this study, only one of them has the specific objective of disseminating literary works and encouraging reading.

This dissertation presents a study of narratives of people who are or have already been in a homeless situation in the city of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, mainly based on Benedictus Spinoza's theory of affections, relating it to the concept of care of the self discussed by Michel Foucault. The objective was to describe and analyze seven narratives, verifying if they express characteristics related to "freedom" and "care of the self". After analyzing the narratives, we identified three themes that led to the chapters of this dissertation: passive affections and their relationship with care of the self; the freedom of affection and the care of the self and the other; the "street’s no place" and the affection of those who inhabit it. The research was applied in nature with a qualitative approach. Ethical criteria were used in research with human beings, according to Resolution No. 196/96 of the National Health Council. After the preliminary interview, it was considered not to be more relevant, in view of the objectives of this dissertation, to make use of a script with questions. In the light of Gilles Deleuze and Claire Parnet, it is understood that an interview in the form of a conversation could be more fruitful with the interviewees, with only one pre-established question about the participant's life history. Thus, it was sought to perceive the care of the self and the affections in the narratives through meetings that could favor the access to the multiplicities, and thus to go beyond the already constructed criteria about the people who are or who already were in homeless situation.

Based on the theoretical framework of the French current of Discourse Analysis, this dissertation seeks to raise possible ethès mirrored on the life narratives of female embroiderers who, in some way, established some kind of relationship with their work. We worked with the hypothesis that these relationships have also aspects related to the identity formation of these collaborators, to their political positions, as well as mark their own doing as a subsistence factor, since embroidering is a job opportunity for some of them. For this research, four embroiderers of different socioeconomic-educational profiles and different age groups were selected. With a diversified sample, it was possible, through the collection of interviews, to perceive common ethos indices among the interviewees, despite the diversity of the cut. It was also possible to verify the importance of affective memory for the construction and definition of the social roles assumed by these embroiderers, as if all the tips of the lines that weave the life of these beings arose from the entanglement of the same ball: being a woman in our society.

This research proposes as a theme the investigation of how the actions of the mediators of reading in the school library contribute to the formation of literary readers at elementary school. The basic objective is to dialogue with the theoretical and practical conceptions that support the formation of readers in this school phase, taking into account the processes of literacy, literary literacy and multiliteracies in school practice. The theoretical frame is based on a sociocultural and anthropological conception of literacy, extended to the concept of multiliteracies. The target audience to this study will be students of the third level of elementary school in a public and private school in Contagem city, Minas Gerais. As methodology, a case study is proposed. For data collection and analysis, the observation of mediation of reading in the school library, the analysis of documents and semi-structured interviews will be used. The main theoretical and relevant references adopted, by the concern about the democratization of reading, are represented here by Soares (2002, 2011), Lajolo (2003, 2008) and Paulino (2004, 2010). This study points to the relevance of knowing the reality of schools, the daily life of the school library, the reading practices developed in this space, the subjects involved in the process of formation of readers and what actions are carried out in the school library that contribute to the formation of small readers.

The first ladies’ outfit choices give rise to discursive questions. The clothes, being passible of readings that extrapolate their primary functionality, that is, the protection of the body, also imply questions of subjective valuation. On account of the implicit argumentative dimension of clothes, it is possible to identify them as vocalizers of political speeches. By means of clothing, discursive self-images are (re)constructed, propitiating the assessment of the ideation of a possible image of oneself. This image, in turn, acts as a legitimator of social identities. In this context, this dissertation addresses media interpretations of self-images of the first ladies of Brazil, thus detecting the main ethé depicted from discursive elaborations materialized through their outfits. As corpus analysis, this study considered newspaper reports by O Globo, Folha de S.Paulo, and Veja magazine referring to the following first ladies’ outfits: Rosane Collor (Fernando Collor’s government, from 1990 to 1992), Ruth Cardoso (Fernando Henrique Cardoso’s government, from 1995 to 2002), Marisa Letícia da Silva (Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s government, from 2003 to 2010), and Marcela Temer (Michel Temer’s government, from 2016 to 2018). The aforementioned analysis laid emphasis on the discursive sense of the first ladies’ outfits interpreted by these media vehicles. In other words, it sheds light upon the exposure of the apparel and its intentions of usage recorded by press, which, accordingly, bring about possible imaginaries and ethotic projections of these enunciating subjects. Therefore, through the discourse of the “other”, the construction of the self-image is approached, since there is a subject that speaks of another subject. The apprehension of the ethé related to the first ladies was achieved by means of media trends, considering the manner by which such apparel’s compositions were reverberate. When referring to a first lady’s outfit, the speech of a journalist or a member of the press is endued with an evaluative tone, meticulously critical, belonging to the field of ideas, and values. The discursive analysis of newspaper reports allowed us to identify that media vehicles actively participate in the reproduction and maintenance of stereotypes that surround these women, configuring a collective ethos from a patriarchal imaginary.

The widespread use of digital commercial games by people of all ages today gives relevance to their study in the area of Applied Linguistics to learning English as a foreign language. Outside of Brazil, renowned researchers have been working on this topic for decades now (Gee, 2003; 2007, Thorne; Black; Sykes, 2009, Thorne; Fischer, 2012, among many others). Taking for granted the Brazilian context, in an attempt to face the challenge, this thesis aims to: (1) analyze a game experience lived by a 10-year-old student of English as a foreign language at the basic level when playing Scribblenauts Unmasked; and (2) discuss the use of the foreign language made by her in achieving goals of the game. This research proposed in a case study format, has an applied nature, qualitative approach and exploratory character. The data were generated by means of screen capture of a gameplay session and the recording of a semi-structured interview, in an audio file format. During the interview, the participant reviewed his game experience and explained the choice of words and expressions made in trying to achieve game goals. In the analysis phase, the participant's gaming experience was described, with the intention of verifying the occurrence of episodes of probable incidental learning of English. From the emerging content, based on the framework of formal learning experiences of English as a foreign language proposed by Miccoli (Miccoli, Bambirra, Vianini, 2019), some preliminary categories of foreign language incidental learning through videogames were created and validated externally. By using the new categories, it was possible to raise and discuss the nature of the learning undertaken by the participant, what broadens the scope of Brazilian experiential research (Miccoli, 1997-2019) once it opens reflection and discussion about learning through digital games. Finally, it could also be verified that the game Scribblenauts Unmasked has potential to contribute to the learning of vocabulary in English, and can be used in both formal and informal learning circumstances.

Even before the birth of individuals and throughout life, the gender characteristic is considered socially an essential factor to trace the life trajectory of a baby and to build a certain expectation (girl or boy? Pink or blue? Fragile or manly?) . For Santos (2010), the expected behavior of a person of a given sex is the result of social conventions about gender, these ideas of what is expected of men and women are produced through social relations. Faced with these social expectations about men and women, the theme of this work is the social representation of gender on The Simpsons, an American television series known for its satirical content. Throughout this work, it was examined the construction of the roles attributed to men and women in society that are represented throughout the cartoon (from the imaginary established in the social universe). It is intended to analyze the construction of socio-discursive strategies (imaginary, ethos, interdiscourse) throughout the narrative of three episodes, named: Lisa vs Malibu Stacy- Season 5, Episode 14 (1994), Homer’s Phobia- Season 8 Episode 15 (1997) and Large Marge - Season 14, Episode 4 (2002) and it was investigated by the meaning effect of the cartoon production. It is a bibliographical research, of a basic nature, carried out through transcription and analysis of collected data. The analysis was based on the concepts proposed by Dominique Maingueneau (2014), Patrick Charaudeau (2013), Ruth Amossy (2005) and Steven Keslowitz (2007). It was verified the criticism of marked behaviors regarding how a woman should behave in parental relationships from childhood to adulthood (toys that reinforce stereotypes, domestic activities, sexual intercourse, the dictatorship of beauty, the need to please the partner). Besides that, the identification on the raising process of a male child, sometimes rooted in sexist stereotypes, there were also interferences of stigmas referring to the homo affective universe.

This study stems from the proposal to analyze pronominal placement tendencies in the written variety of Brazilian Portuguese, by means of the contrast between written texts produced in situations of intense linguistic monitoring and grammatical compendia. Starting from the hypothesis that, regarding pronoun placement, the cultured use of the Brazilian Portuguese language deviates from the grammatical prescriptions, we sought to map said prescriptions presented by eleven didactic books and to compare them with the use in texts belonging to two different genres: academic and journalistic. This mapping allowed us to notice inconsistencies in the description and prescription of the rules regarding pronoun placement when comparing the works of the different grammarians. The analyzed corpus included six academic papers published in Revista da Faculdade de Direito da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais and ten editorials published online in Folha de São Paulo’s website. The academic papers presented a prevalence of proclysis over enclysis; editorials, which follow the guidelines established by the newspaper’s Writing Manual, presented a better balance between the two pronoun placement possibilities. The results suggest that, although the Brazilian Portuguese cultured writing tends, similarly to what happens in speech, towards proclysis, the existence of a clear paradigm, to which authors can refer, has the ability to attenuate this inclination.

In the present work, we will immerse ourselves in the intimate space of feelings and memories, because the life narrative (self-narrative) does not represent the mere materialization of the speech, but, in addition, it’s the modeling of the world, of the other and of who takes the floor. Therefore, the central proposal of our investigation is to understand the process of transposition of the saying to the discourse through the life narratives of the visually impaired person.Life narratives, Semiolinguistic Theory, argumentative dimension, ethos and identity facets are the basic theoretical frameworks of this study.Through a careful reflection, we question whether the narratives of themselves and the discursive strategies mobilized in them allow us to observe the construction of a framework for the lived experiences and the reconfiguration of the identity of the subjects with visual impairment from the examination of enunciative linguistic markers evidenced in the reports. To answer this question, four semi-structured interviews will be carried out for people with visual impairment, aged between 20 and 65 years. With an average of at most (one) 01 hour of duration, the interviews will be recorded and transcribed for the elaboration of the data analyzes. The interview will cover six specific themes in which the interviewed will be invited to reflect and talk about: life (childhood, adolescence and adulthood), relationships (affective relations), school and professional trajectory, inclusion and accessibility, public policies and the social context, historical and cultural of adversities. Our hypothesis meets the premise that the visual deficient, by assuming the direction of his voice, would pass through the sphere of the senses and could be able to produce, by means of a constituent enunciator subject, a discourse that would manifest an opposing position to stereotypical crystallizations, creating, finally, identity marks of resistance and reconfiguration of its image.

Beginning from a historical introduction of the National Monument São Jorge dos Erasmos in Santos and reviewing concepts of memory, it´s shown how the edition of a videomapping show occurred in a national monument and its implications for the heritage and to our perception of it. It is pointed out its multifaceted character while being a historical object and at the same time a projection screen of contents related to itself. The main elements that compose the narrative speech were ordered with the help of Peircean Semiotics as postulated by Lucia Santaella in “Matrizes da Linguagem”. It is discussed the symbology of the unique format of the screen with the help of Walter Benjamin´s essays on the reproduction in art and his concept of History, as well as an idea of anachronism in Art, as worked by Georges Didi-Huberman. Editing concepts are brought here to describe the creation process of the show from a technological evolution perspective. The monument is presented as an anachronic critical image, able to modify the curse of facts by making a historical presentation.

This research deals with Lifelong Education (FLV) in teaching. This topic was researched with the purpose of investigating how it is and what were the benefits of the teacher's FLV in their pedagogical practices through narratives, starting from their capacity of agency on what they want to learn. The theoretical foundation of this research is based on the notion of lifelong education (FERREIRA 2012, MEIRIEU, 2005; MERLE, 2006) that carries the idea that the central post of the professional or personal training course is occupied by the subject himself (in this specific case, the in-service teacher), who has autonomy and awareness about what he or she chooses to learn, without feeling forced by external demands from the labor world and the education system. Thus, his or her interests and desires converge on the logic of self-realization and his/her motivation comes from the emancipation projects that he/she establishes for his/her development in life and work. Therefore, this research aimed to identify moments dedicated to the FLV of the researched teachers, through life narratives. The choice of narratives as an instrument of data generation is justified by providing centrality to the issuer, thus, in direct contact with their experiences and life and career experiences. Given the characteristics of the type of investigation and in function of the data that make up the corpus of the research, we chose to develop a qualitative research from the perspective of the case study, considering that it is an investigation into filling knowledge gaps left in the initial teacher education and make a difference in their teaching practice. From the description of the problem, solutions were sought in the literature. As a result of the research, we observed that even without receiving professional encouragement from the state of Minas Gerais to undertake efforts in continuing education, the teachers provided practical aspects of the profession to meet this need, although they did not neglect the importance of academic studies. Thus, we contribute with this work to draw attention to the importance of valuing teacher education within the profession in conjunction with postgraduate academic education.

This research proposes a reading of Michel Laub’s novel (2011), Diário da queda, reflecting upon the relations between literature, memory and oblivion. This study aims at investigating the presence of the different memories in the book validated through temporal transit across various subjects, contexts, experiences: by trauma, by objects, by writings, by the senses. Furthermore, it is important to think about the signs of silence, considering the interactions that say a lot even not using words. It is worth mentioning the forms of oblivion that will be analyzed: Auschwitz, which concerns the experiences in the concentration camp, silenced, possibly as a strategy to proceed despite traumatic stories experienced/observed; Alzheimer – the narrator’s grandfather receives this diagnosis, and his memory then goes through a process of destruction due to illness. As a power in the building of the narrative, the lack of memory takes place in many levels, including the familiar context, working as a connective of tenses, having in silence, a refuge, a way to hide the experiences, the undesirable histories and the feelings that are still there after the events. The existence of the gaps is the aspect that moves the narrator and makes him pass through memories, having in the past, present and future, support. The writing used by grandfather, father and grandchild as a way of generating and communicating memory. Thinking about these three movements, verifying how to remember, how to keep silent and how to forget are worked in the novel, the structure of the work will be developed, woven of notes and theoretical foundation.

Literacy cannot be considered a single process nor the mere acquisition of reading and writing skills. Modern approaches have broadened the understanding of literacy to a social construction. In contexts where managers and teachers are digitally literate, we assume that there is latent potential for the educational process to be guided by the effects of the digital revolution and for student education with an appropriate profile to the Information Society. However, the use of digital information and communication technologies is still neglected in pedagogical practices. Promoting literacy (s), digital literacy in particular, means empowering the individual to broaden their possibilities for social interaction, active participation in their own education and intellectual independence, as well as better student education. for the competitive job market. In order to build an overview of the use of digital information and communication technologies to mediate educational practices, the Administration and Psychology courses of a private higher education institution were delimited, where I conducted a case study, used a documentary research, with analysis of the PDI, and field research with interview to the course managers and the general director. I also conducted a student survey using a Google form to understand how undergraduate Business and Psychology undergraduates perceive the relevance of ICDT in their education and future work, as well as the involvement of teachers. to promote the development of students' skills and competences for the age of digital technologies. From the data collected through these instruments, I observed which actions in the administration of this institution are based on an understanding of the concept of digital literacy and the digital literacy levels of managers and teachers, as well as the understanding of those investigated about social demands by ICDT. I applied a qualitative approach in the data analysis, in order to obtain a critical view of the investigated scenario and to suggest an Educational Action Plan to the University, from the perspective of improving the performance of managers and teachers.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the former president Dilma Rousseff’s female identity discoursive construction at the speeches she gave during the period in which she was provisionally removed from office due to the impeachment process. To that end, as a methodological contribution will be used the Patrick Charaudeau’s Semiolinguistic, especially the concepts involving political discourse and ethos. In addition, the notion of Silence (ORLANDI, 1995) will be used. In this way, it is intended to observe if a specific ethos was constructed for the woman in a leadership situation in a moment of political fragility, as well as to analyze the presence or not of the evocation of the feminine in the mediatic scene in which the discourses of the former presidente happened.

This doctoral dissertation draws on Critical Literacy (LUKE and FREEBODY, 1997; CERVETTI, 2001; MONTE-MÓR, 2007), Multiliteracies (LANKSHEAR, SNYDER and GREEN, 2000; ROJO, 2012), Visual Literacy (BROWETT, 2002; BRAMFORD, 2009), Critical Applied Linguistics (PENNYCOOK, 2010) and sets out to investigate the pedagogical possibilities of working with imagery and the English Language teachers’ acquired perceptions from the usage of the Critical Visual Literacy Framework (CVLF) in their classes. Applied, descriptive and exploratory in its nature, this research departs and is, therefore, conducted anchored in the interpretative paradigm to use qualitative approaches in its two phases. In the first one, the evaluations of ninety teachers regarding the availability and the quality of the images in English textbooks are examined. Likewise, it is investigated the existence of any pedagogical guidelines or extra information about it. The research methodology included an online Google forms questionnaire answered by English teachers. The responses were compiled, separated and divided according to their content for analysis. As for the second phase, four teachers were invited to use the CVLF as a support for a pedagogical activity and write a testimonial reporting their observations regarding the implications of its usage. The results indicated teachers’ interest in more pedagogical resources, information and guidelines capable of assisting them with the imagery textbooks use. In the same direction, English teachers' perceptions regarding CVLF pointed to the overall positive impact observed in their classes when applying it.

In this doctoral dissertation, the central objective is to investigate Clarice Lispector's enunciation as a press professional, in order to unveil the reconstruction of the enunciative scene and the discursive ethos in the book Correio Feminino, a work that, published posthumously in 2006, gathers part of her production for female columns, in the 50s and 60s, in different newspapers. This objective is linked to two central issues that guided the research. The first one came up from the interest to know how the construction of the enunciative scene and of the discursive ethos in the texts that integrate this journalistic production of Clarice Lispector. Based on Maingueneau's theoretical-methodological assumptions (1995, 2001, 2004a, 2008b, 2014, 2015) and adopting his conception that gender as a discursive practice should be approached as a socially agreed ritual and subject to criteria of success, I tried to analyze the feminine column from the observation of the relation between generic scene and scenography, to answer, the first questioning. The second question relates to the book Correio Feminino and to the hypothesis that there would be the creation of another scene of works whose nucleus is the book and its editing process, more specifically the work done by the organizer of the book and the designer responsible for the graphic design of the book. Thus, considering (i) that this book does not constitute a mere reproduction of the newspaper texts as other books that shelter a collection of this type of texts, and (ii) that the rescue of this production happens through a process of mediation occurred by the publication of this work, allowing the text to become a book and proposes itself as such to the reader, the question arose of how, in this activity, a new enunciative scene is constructed - a hypothesis that guided this investigation. In search of the answers to such questions, besides the Maingueneau theory, a theoretical apparatus about the literature related to the book and its edition became necessary. To that end, we have brought, for our discussion, theorists such as Chartier (2014, 2002, 1999, 1996), Hendel (2005), Gruszynski (2008), Genette (2009), among others. The work of Aparecida Maria Nunes, who researched the activities of Clarice Lispector as a reporter and interviewer, as a chronicler and columnist, since the 1980s, has been of great importance, so that, in the course of research, it was possible to answer to several questions and conclude the objectives of this research, confirming the hypothesis that guided this research: in Correio Feminino, through the articulation of other voices - of the organizer and the designer responsible for the graphic design, ensure that the construction of a new scene of enunciation, as well as of the ethos - the specialist of the work of Lispector - that participates of it, to fulfill the purpose of this work: to offer the reader of Clarice Lispector another Clarice Lispector - the female journalist.

In this thesis, we investigated the discursive strategies in live television broadcasts of major news events in situations of tragedy. We based our studies on the epistemological assumptions of French Discourse Analysis, specifically the one that assumes a discourse perspective, as Patrick Charaudeau did and still does. Our empirical object was the “live” coverage that the channel Globo News carried out on the airplane crash involving members of the soccer team Associação Chapecoense de Futebol, media professionals and crew of LaMia company, which occurred on November 29, 2016, near to Medellín, Colombia. The fact that the major news event is “live” and not pre-planned makes it a unique genre within Language Studies, making it a compelling corpus of research. It induces a more authentic discursive realization compared to what normally occurs in other TV genres, whether recorded or “live”, because it is a text in act, enunciation. In this sense, we first sought to identify characteristic elements of live television, in order to separate them from other technical systems of representation, to later analyze the diegetic process instituted by the broadcaster, considering the discursive strategies implemented and how the syntactic-discursive cadence of the broadcast takes place. We performed bibliographical research and systematically observed the live broadcast by Globo News, analyzing its programming, subjects (anchor, reporter / correspondent, commentator and interviewee) and the scenic devices (scenery / studio, plans /cuts and syntactic elements) belonging to the media and social spaces of “live” coverage in order to delve into the whole narrative diegesis. Among the results, we found that the choice for the YOU-addressee is not only in the journalistic publications, but also in the advertising presented there. The major news event was characterized by mobilizing a large number of possible thematic frameworks. The anchor was the true pivot of the game proposed by the production instance, as he/she used the discursive modes, mediated (or even led) the relation between the viewer and her/his access to the major news event and granted speech shifts during the “live” coverage. The participation of reporters and / or commentators was a discursive strategy based, at the same time, on a credibility aim (visee), but, above all, on capture, since much of the information they brought could be said by the anchor. The commentator, even though using mainly the mode of argumentative organization, or of the “commented event”, was defined by the lack of rigor of his statements, being another strategy of capture by Globo News channel and filling the “gaps” of the coverage, moments when there was no new information about the great news event. The specialist used a distanced engagement, expressing his opinion from an expertise, but being prudent, through an argument based on the hypothesis and suspicion. His participation was connected to the event, not to the commented event, as in the case of the commentator. The interviewee ranged from an authority, a witness or a member of the family of the victims and their participation was by a strategy of credibility (authority and witness) or by a strategy of capture (family of victims), having a more distanced engagement (authority and witness) or a more evident and pathetic engagement (family of victims). The scenographic composition alternated among selfreferential, decorative and modular in the media space, and hyper-real, authenticated and simulated in social space. The most recurrent plan was the medium, in which the subjects are framed from the waist up, and the first plane, from the bust up, denoting a social distance between the broadcaster and the viewer. The camera movement was rare, but it took its place in certain transmissions, as in Estúdio I, because of its less formal “tone”, or when a pathetic effect was sought, as in the interview with relatives of victims, in which the pain was highlighted. The crawl had the following characteristics: modular operation (text blocks), binary (syntactic), circular (repeats itself) and, in some cases, thematic, but, discursively, showed a discursive strategy of capture and competition with other scenical devices. As a result, we concluded that the “live” coverage performed by Globo News on November 29, 2016, due to its discursive strategies (especially capture and mea-culpa), was eager to provide new information (using a variety of sources) along with the presence of subjects to support the emptiness of non-novelty (commentators and specialists) and the use of infrequent materialities in the media discourse of information (telephone interview, low-quality photos and images) performed a syntactic-discursive cadence that we named “media roundabout” in order to build its narrative diegese.

This study presents a study on the appropriation of the English language teaching material distributed in public schools by the National Textbook Program (PNLD). The inclusion and distribution of English language textbooks for elementary and high school levels education in public schools began in 2011 and 2012 respectively. Despite the detailed call notice, the bibliographic production related to this material is still incipient and mandatory for the consolidation of its path, especially regarding its appropriation. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the appropriation of the English textbooks of the PNLD by teachers and students from 9th grade of elementary public schools in the Zona da Mata Mineira. To achieve this goal, interviews with teachers and students, questionnaires, and field notes were carried out, which consisted of the research corpus. To analyze it I turn to the theory of Systemic-Functional Linguistics (HALLIDAY, 1979; HALLIDAY and MATTHIESSEN, 2004; EGGINS, 2004) and Brazilian researchers, especially Fuzer and Cabral (2014) and Silva (2012, 2016) that have been developing studies using this theory. The Systems of Appraisal and Ideation (MARTIN and ROSE, 2007) also support the analysis, as well as official documents and studies by experts in the field. The methodology of the research is anchored in the qualitative approach that values the production of knowledge through the method of dialogue (BOGDAN and BIKLEN, 1994; DEMO, 1995). The results show that, in spite of the global recognition of English as a lingua franca and its inclusion in the PNLD, in public schools it remains undervalued as a studying subject. There is a lack of PNLD support to teachers, still dependent on assignments and work alternation. This causes ignorance of the program and the absence of continued training for a more beneficial appropriation of the teaching material. Therefore, the distribution of textbooks does not guarantee the viability of the pedagogical action according to its proposals and guiding theories. By appropriating the textbook, teachers expect to have it as an ally, hoping to legitimize its use in the classroom. That’s a cause of disappointment with the teaching material, when, because they were not prepared for the pedagogical innovations that the book suggests, or linguistically to accompany the flow of readings and activities, teachers end up using it in a monolingual, structural and vertical form. However, the appropriation of the teaching material impacts positively in the professional preparation of the teachers, leading them to seek proficiency. The results also show that students appreciate the activities done with the PNLD material, preferring them to the routine activities of copies and translations, or grammar exercises out of context. Considering that the PNLD encourages the use of differentiated teaching materials, this study is expected to contribute to a critical view of the subject, proposing actions to prepare teachers for the use of the material, adapting it to the public schools in Zona da Mata. Especially in small cities, access, or perhaps even interest in the literature of new methodological approaches, experiences, official documents, participation in events, etc. is very restricted. This distancing from academic productions can be remedied through shortterm projects on the appropriation of the material as a means of promoting the empowerment of professionals and English subject, thus contributing to the improvement of basic education.

The enormous presence of mobile technologies and digital games in our lives has led to a growing academic interest in developing studies to investigate the relationship between learning, especially language learning, and these devices and games. The overall goal of this study is to establish how game elements are used in vernacular games and gamified applications developed for mobile devices. I analyze game elements in their manifestations in these games and applications for smartphones and tablets to promote a discussion about how these elements have been used in these devices and how they can promote language learning. Based on a characterization of game elements from the literature of the area, on a survey of the characteristics of mobile devices and use of these devices, as well as on a review of the constructs affordances, tangential learning and conditions of emergence, I (a) evaluate how the characteristics of mobile devices and use of these devices interfere with the implementation of game elements in the vernacular game Clash Royale; (b) evaluate how these game elements are operationalized in the mobile gamified application for additional language learning Duolingo; (c) study how the additional language or the mother tongue emerge in the vernacular game and gamified application in relation to the game elements; (d) identify the affordances for language learning perceived by vernacular mobile game users; and (e) discuss a possible relationship between the use of game elements in mobile devices and the affordances for additional language learning perceived by players. The literature review was used in the design of an analysis matrix that, complemented by a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview, allowed me to make a focused description of both the incorporation of those elements in digital games for smartphones and tablets as well as the users perceptions of the linguistic affordances offered. Through multiple case studies, this study investigates the hypothesis that the characteristics of mobile devices, as well as the circumstances and ways of using these devices, impose limitations and opportunities for the operationalization of game elements in these technologies, especially for language learning. The results seem to confirm this hypothesis by demonstrating that the use of mobile devices as a support for the vernacular game alters, albeit superficially, the interaction patterns of the player with both the game and its elements. The data suggest that the operationalization of game elements is more affected by the physical features than the characteristics of use in mobile devices, and that more abstract elements were more affected. The results of the analysis of the gamified application show a very limited implementation of the game elements, pointing to a huge need to improve the use of these elements in applications aimed at language learning. The analysis of language mobilization in the game and in the application reveals more success in the former than in the latter. While the game fails to articulate the language in only 1 of the 34 game elements of the analysis matrix, the application fails in doing so in 14 elements. The results of the assessment of affordances perceived by the participants in this study reveal 8 opportunities for language learning reported. Most of these perceived linguistic affordances seems to illustrate the propositions of Tangential Learning, suggesting the potential of the perspective to inform the development of games for language learning. Finally, an interpretation of the data allows me to visualize a relationship between the use given to game elements in mobile devices and the linguistic affordances perceived by the players under the light of the conditions for complex emergence. However, this relationship will require corroboration by studies with more participants and games in different contexts.

In this work, we studied strategies of memory’s construction in the characters Camacho and Varguitas of Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter, a novel by Mario Vargas Llosa. We aimed to identify and to analyze the processes by which the literary creation took place in this novel, as well as the results of it. We took into account the Vargas Llosa's project in which he claimed to perform an autobiography and narrative of the acts of a character he had met in his youth. The Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter is a discourse triggered by memory, about literature and literary vocation, in which the characters and writers were materialized, immersed in melodramatic art. In the first part of these work, we identified the memory as the protagonist of literary creation based on analysis of the terms "deicide" and "demon", used by Vargas Llosa in García Márquez: History of a Deicide. Next, we detach the time of the novel narrative under study: the present in which the narrator has cut the past to make it fiction. In this context, the story presents Vargas Llosa's conception of literature and the role of the writer. Later, when we find that the Llosa's autobiographical pretension resulted in autofiction, we analyze the formation of the writer's characters from the study of autofiction types by Vincent Collona, specifically in the specular type, whose axis is the narrative techniques of communicating vessels and the Chinese box operated by Vargas Llosa. We conclude that the writer's characters, the sum of memories and non-memories, serve to construct a self-image as a “writer”, a fiction of itself, as a support for the literary vocation apology.

Several languages have been used to represent the Holocaust or Shoah, from historiographical narratives to literature, from Sociology to Philosophy and from comics and photographs to cinematographic production. The transmission of horror and absolute oppression experienced in the death camps has for years been a subject seen as of great importance in the academic milieu. This work aims to contribute to the studies on the construction of memory and the notion of the testimony of survivors who, in spite of the continuous torment of remembrance, tell their stories. The research is mainly based on the discussion of two important works – If This is a man? and The Drowned and the Saved, by Primo Levi. In addition, Levi’s works deal with four photographs taken by prisoners at Auschwitz, whose concepts of image and traumatic memory are approached in the light of the discussions of such theoreticians as Walter Benjamin, Paul Ricoeur, Giorgio Agamben, Didi-Huberman, Márcio Seligmann-Silva and Michael Foucault, among others. The objective is to analyze how the two texts, in contrast to the concepts emanating from the photos taken at Auschwitz, reflect and contribute at the present to the construction of the collective and cultural memory of the Jewish communities imprisoned in the death camps of World War II. Firstly, concepts which deals with the subject of memory are discussed, a domain that at the same time is composed of individual memories and determines the cultural memory: cultural manifestations chosen as symbols of the collective memory of groups, whether these are nations or minorities. It then discusses how the testimonial narrative has the ability to deal with memories by allowing diverse points of view and giving voice to those who would have no other channel of expression. These works incorporate the imaginary, historiographical and autobiographical discourse, offering insights that help us to rethink, in the context of comparative literature, the relation between memory, trauma and testimony, as well as issues involving pain, revolt and indignation.

One of the main features of Brian Friel´s work is to represent memory on stage. Dancing at Lughnasa is one of his plays classified by critics as a "memory play" because it presents, like The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, a narrator who narrates the events taken from his memories. The play is also Friel´s autofiction and contains some autobiographical traces of the playwright.
However, Dancing at Lughnasa's relationship with memory goes beyond the thematic and becomes the playwright's procedure and way of making theater in memory of the theater itself, bringing back its origins in rituals and tragedy, and re-reading the main elements of the foundation of the Irish Literary Theater. Dancing at Lughnasa is not only a memory play, but also refers to theater, which is also memory, and thus can be considered a metatheatrical text, as it enables discussions about drama, its techniques and its functioning.
By analyzing the notions of time, space and body in the play, essential elements for both the theater and memory, this research intends to delineate the conception of memory brought by Friel and how it relates to theater, referring to the tradition and at the same time, corroborating to an idea of community different from the one imagined by the members of the Irish Literary Theater. As a dramatic text first presented in the 1990s, aiming at opening the Irish theater to an international context, this research also intends to consider its adaptation to the Hollywood cinema directed by Pat O'Connor, and the treatment given to the local memory in this media that allows its globalization.
From life to writing, from writing to stage, from stage to cinema, memory as a repetition in difference is in constant movement and in a continuous process of making meaning in time and space, according to the bodies and communities involved.

This thesis has as theme the use of literary texts in the teaching portuguese as a foreign language (PLE), with the purpose of describing and discussing this use in materials and teaching at CEFET-MG with the purpose of explaining the literature potential as a resource to establish an intercultural approach. For this, we start from a discussion about the role of literature in the teaching of PLE and the place of these texts in textbooks and in teaching practice. In this context, we perceive that literature has been used as a pretext for exploring grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and reading activities. In addition, we verified the contribution of the Portal of Portuguese Foreign Language Teacher/ Non-Mother Language as an instrument to promote the intercultural approach through the sharing of didactic units for teaching PLE. Based on theories that discuss the role of literature and the intercultural approach in language teaching, we analyze, firstly, these didactic units and didactic materials produced by PLE teachers through literary texts. Subsequently, we analyzed and discussed the teaching practice, with these materials, of four teachers, in different language learning contexts of PLE in CEFET-MG. In this regard, this research has a qualitative character involving the case study. The analysis of the materials indicates that the designers of the didactic units comply, in part, with what PPPLE proposes methodologically. On the other hand, teachers' materials are conceived in both communicative and structuralist bases. With regard to teachers of PLE, we find that they play a key role in the development of an intercultural approach through literature. The study shows that, in order to adopt an interculturalist teacher's role through literature, the teacher needs to be sensitized to this. The reflections presented, in this thesis, can contribute to professional development of teachers and the development of intercultural teaching materials.

In this paper, we aim to study the mode of configuration of the poetic writing of Laís Corrêa de Araújo (1928-2006), taking into account the processes and procedures created by the writer in confluence with the demands of the media and new technologies. The corpus will be the poems published in the author’s first book, Caderno de poesia (1951) until the last, Geriátrico (2002). In order to better understand the creative process of these compositions, we consider not only the text itself, but the elements related to the production circuit, circulation and reception of the poems, allied to the materiality of the means in which they are configured. Thus, the development of the research is structured on the main poetic axes of Araújo’s diction: its relationship with the present and the resonances of his personal and professional experiences in his creative process, the implications of the critical recognition of his work, the selection of his own poetic and political strategies, as well as the dialogue with the multiple voices and the communicative techniques that engender them, seeking to articulate discussions about how these manifestations evolve in the course of their poetic production. In our analysis, we identified that there is, in Araújo’s poetry, a potential existence of rhizomatic and hypertextual practices. In consideration of the vocation of this poetry to the digital, we present a project of poetic experimentation in an electronic context, in order to dialogue with the theoretical scope developed in this thesis, in an attempt to enrich academic research.

The study reported in this thesis aimed, based on a proposal of teaching based on the textual genres, to investigate how the meanings are constructed through reading and writing practices of multimodal texts which incorporate different modalities of meaning in English language teaching. The study is supported by the multiliteracies and the grammar of visual design knowledge. It was developed with students of the first year of high school of the Logistics technical Course in a Federal institution in the countryside of Minas Gerais. Activities from the course book and production of complementary materials were adapted by the researcher teacher. It was sought to investigate, from the insertion of practices of reading and production of multimodal texts, that integrate the verbal and non-verbal aspects, as the meanings are constructed; to detect the facileness and challenges faced by the learners during the development of the activities; to observe and identify the required skills of the learners during the process of reading and elaborating multimodal texts and to analyze the textual production presented by the students after developing skills related to reading and elaborating multimodal texts under the light of the grammar of visual design. The research was supported by theoretical constructs related to the English Teaching, Textual Genre (ALMEIDA FILHO, 2010, LEFFA, 2016, RESENDE, RAMALHO, 2006, MARTIN, ROSE, 2007, BOCCIA et al. , 2006), to systemic-functional linguistics, social semiotics and multimodality (HALLIDAY; HASAN, 1989; HODGE, KRESS, 1988; KRESS, 2003, 2010; KRESS; van LEEUWEN, 2006; SERAFINI, 2014; JEWITT; (KALANTIZIS, COPE, 2012, CERVETTI et al., 2001, MEURER, 2000, CARVALHO, ARAGÃO, 2015). The methodology used in this study was Participant Research (BRANDÃO, 2006), and the tools to collect data include questionnaires, field diary, interview, analysis of production activities and informal conversation. As results achieved, it was observed that the proposed activities contributed to the development of the students' Multimodal Communicative Competence (ROYCE, 2002) as it allowed students to understand that contemporary multimodal texts are formed by several semiotic modes and that these modes need to be considered in the process of production of the senses either in consumption or in textual production. As for the challenges encountered, it was inferred that there were no unique challenges that were equally applicable to all participants, that is, the challenge of one student set the ease of another student. In what concerns the skills required from the students, it was noted necessary to go beyond the practice of reading and writing of the verbal code. It was observed, that the participants had to demonstrate mastery of digital tools, and act as navigators, interpreters, designers and interrogators in order to produce meanings in the Foreign Language of study.

This bibliographic research aims mainly at constructing a theoretical framework for the use of feedback as an instantiation of formative assessment in an approach for teaching and learning foreign languages via textual genres. Due to the experience of implementing such an approach in the context of high school technical courses at CEFET-MG, lived by the team of English teachers who work for the Coordination of Foreign Languages area, it was observed that there is a gap in Literature on how to assess textual production within this approach: the pedagogical practice focus on the procedural character of meaning production which naturally demands an assessment practice that privileges the process. Within this textual genre teaching approach, formative assessment, potentialized by feedback, plays a fundamental role in the process of textual genre production, considering the multimodal meaning making in the current world (COPE; KALANTZIS, 1993; 2015; MARTIN, 2009; KALANTZIS; COPE, 2012). Formative assessment puts the students at the center of the learning process, fosters the development of their metacognition and agency, because it takes place intertwined with the learning process, in the collaborative construction of knowledge by means of mediation (LANTOLF, 2000; VYGOTSKY, 1978). Without emphasizing feedback use, process assessment gives place to partial or final product assessment, perpetuating the traditional practice of evaluation for mere promotional purposes, without any retroactive effect to the students' management of their own learning. Specific objectives were established for the construction of the proposed theoretical framework: (1) better understand and justify theoretically the feedback as an instantiation of formative assessment in a teaching and learning approach of foreign languages via textual genres; (2) identify the types of feedback events capable of being used in formative assessment practices during the textual genre productions; and (3) propose ways of using feedback in this formative assessment practice. The chapters were designed to operationalize the established objectives. In Chapter 1, the research problem is introduced, contextualized and its relevance for future research in the area of teaching and learning foreign languages is justified; the objectives as well as the research questions are established to orient the development of the research. In Chapter 2, the conceptualization of formative assessment is investigated in the guidelines for the teaching of foreign languages, present in national official documents created to regulate secondary schooling in Brazil, as well as in the Brazilian academic production directed to the teaching and learning of foreign languages. In Chapter 3, the role of feedback in the mediation of learning is analyzed specifically in order to identify types of feedback events that could be used in formative assessment practices. In Chapter 4, the conclusions of previous chapters are contextualized within the complexity theory, demonstrating that assessment must be considered a subsystem of learning that emerges when offering and receiving feedback. In Chapter 5, the use of feedback as an instantiation of formative assessment in multiliteracies pedagogy is discussed according to conceptions of teaching, learning and language that support the approach of teaching and learning languages through textual genres. In Chapter 6, the research methodology is described. In Chapters 7 and 8, according to the conclusions of the previous chapters, the proposal of a theoretical construct creation is presented as well as suggestions for future research.

In this paper, we seek to verify the extent to which literacy practices experienced by the professional in training in the context of corporate education have an effect on their literacy for the exercise of functional activities. In this modality of teaching, the student does not only experience literacy practices systematized for pedagogical purposes, but several others that are part of his or her routine as a member of the organization that promotes the event. With support in the framework of Literacy Studies, we understand literacy as a situated practice (BARTON, 1998, BARTON, HAMILTON, 2000), which therefore occurs in specific contexts of human life, influenced by cultural, social and historical aspects. Taking the experiences of students of corporate education as a construct and unit of analysis (MICCOLI, 1997, 2007, 2014), we will seek, through questionnaires, annotations, interviews and copies of textual genres; identify literacy events that occur in the organization in which the students are inserted, however, outside the classroom. Through interviews, we will seek to understand the reflections of the informants about the identified events and describe literacy practices (STREET, 1984; 2014) from the perspective of these same informants. The group of informants will be composed of three students from the Training Course of Soldiers of the Military Police of Minas Gerais, and the collection will be done during the period of the course, from September 2017 to June 2018. We expect that the research will allow us to reflect on the literacy practices not formally considered in the course plans and their implications for the training of the military police officer.

This thesis analyzes the importance of the image of the black subject in Brazil, produced by white authors throughout the centuries of slavery and after abolition, for the creation and maintenance of colonial ideas and the normalization of oppression by racism. It starts from the analysis of the pictorial and photographic representation of the Brazilian population during the slavery period, when it is possible to detect the importance of images for the construction of a concept of race without biological foundation, aiming to establish and perpetuate white superiority. Since slavery is one of the first manifestations of biopolitics in the world (MBEMBE), the extension of the lordly power over the body of the enslaved to its image is one of the proofs of this mbembian hypothesis. These colonial images still demand the restitution of a name (BENJAMIN) to the black subjects portrayed from a demand for redemption (AGAMBEN) - something that cinema is capable of, and as we will see, has been busy doing. The impossibility of self-representation of the black population in still images persists in moving images after the invention of cinema, the research goes back to the history of the black subject's interdiction and the construction in the first half of the twentieth century of a national cinema instrumentalized by racist bleaching theories. population and racial democracy. The repetition of black representation problems made by white directors of the past and present will be analyzed in light of the new theoretical production of black intellectuals and anti-racist whites - which include concepts such as whiteness, resistant spectator, white fragility, intersectionality, among others. From an affirmative biopolitics perspective, the research focuses on taking control of the black population over their imagery representation, whose milestone is the work “Alma no eye” (Zózimo Bulbul, 1973). One of the hypotheses of the research is that the black cinema provided opening for the emergence of a territory-linked cinema that responds to the deterritorializations caused by capital. Thus is analyzed the cinema of the quilombos and the cinema of urban occupations in their bases linked to an anthropophagic native right that emphasizes the ownership before the property, the use value over the exchange value and guarantees to every living being a land. From this hypothesis, the black cinema and the cinema of the territories are related to the black becoming of the world (MBEMBE) and its libertarian capacity, anchored in the insurgent traditions of resistance of the enslaved peoples to oppression. Where the thesis concludes that these cinemas are vectors of freedom and act in the deconstruction of racism, whose elimination is a condition for the reinvention of the community, which in turn is not separate from the production of the common.

The present thesis discusses the analysis regarding the application of a Unit of a referred textbook of teaching of Portuguese Text Book adapted to Libras, and, thus, the issues of this unit that guide actions for teaching and learning of LP as L2 for deaf children will be discussed based on phenomena that define the multimodality and different modes of significant resources KRESS, 2010, KRESS; VAN LEEWEEN, 2006 and VAN LEEWEEN, 2005)); for the vision of language as Social Semiotics (BARBARA, 2009, FUZER; CABRAL, 2014, HALLIDAY, 1979, 1998, HALLIDAY; HASAN, 1989 and SILVA, R. C., 2016) and by the assumptions of the Deaf Studies that discuss bilingualism (ANN, 2004, GROSJEAN, 2016, SILVA, G. M., 2017, 2018 and QUADROS, 1997, 2005, 2019), language acquisition and second language teaching (QUADROS; CRUZ, 2011; PLAZA-PUST, 2012, 2014, GÁRATE, 2014 and LEBEDEFF, 2007) and finally technological tools for sign language access (AMORIM, 2012, BASSO, 2003, SOUZA, 2015, MOSES, 2018, KRUSSER, 2017). Thus, when investigating the aspects related to the use of the textbook, it is the intent to verify the modes of appropriation and use, by the teacher and the deaf student, of the resources of meaning used in textbooks and their influence on the stimulus for the understanding and learning of LP as L2. The methodology used was qualitative, with ethnographic characteristics, in this case, the researcher was present in the classroom throughout the period of data collection. There were 70 –hours/class video recordings related to the application of a teaching unit, chosen by the participant teacher, of a textbook of teaching LP adapted in Libras. Three teachers and 16 deaf students participated in the research, the investigation took place in three different schools, two in the city of Belo Horizonte and one school in the city of Divinópolis, west of Minas Gerais and, at the end of each unit applied, there was a conversation with those involved questioning them about the use of the teaching material. The data collected reveal the Sign Language circulating in educational spaces; the non-use of the textbook with students; teachers´ non consideration or use of digital technological tools ; the low use of image resources as didactic support and the lack of knowledge of teaching strategies of Portuguese as a second language in written modality; identified several obstacles in the performance of the activities, arising from activities with correspondence to orality (graphophone exercises); non consideration of the different ways of reading texts; among others observed that the different modes of language were not aligned or not complementary. It is concluded, in line with the initial hypothesis of the research, the adapted Portuguese – Sign Language textbook does not offer conditions for the deaf child to learn Portuguese as a second language. Thus, it is believed that this research contributes to greater reflection on the development of adapted teaching materials with the use of Sign Language regarding the teaching of Portuguese as L2 for deaf children.

In this text, we will be studying how affection and memory permeate the narratives represented in Eduardo Coutinho's documentary Game of Scene (2006). Recognized as the greatest Brazilian documentarist and filmmaker of his generation, he dedicated himself to the field of documentary, making films based on the talk of ordinary people and what they have to tell about their experiences and being in the world. He had the intention of delimiting what elements are used for the creation of the documentary of our interest in this study, we will follow some ways of creating the coutiana work to establish the processes of creation in Scene Game. This documentary correlates, through Coutinho's technique use, the story of the characters through affection and memory, thus composing a fiction of reality. There is also a game of interpretation between the participation of ordinary women who propose to tell their stories with the interpretation of professional actresses - who also seem to tell stories of themselves, as well as dialogue with the director about the strategies of interpretation, or for the better or the difficulty of interpreting real women. We will also go through some of these games to try to establish a dialogue with reflections on the creative processes of Eduardo Coutinho, in order to address both the contributions of the coutiana, including the debates about memory in the elaboration of the stories in the cinema, as well as the individual power in the relations of affection.
