SUMMARY:

The main purpose of this work was to study the process of construction and mobilization of knowledge and know-how inherent to teaching in a military educational institution. The Academia de Bombeiro Militar de Minas Gerais (Military Firefighter Academy of Minas Gerais) was chosen as the locus of the field research and, as subjects, 17 teachers of the practical disciplines of land rescue, water rescue, height rescue and urban fire fighting were selected; besides 34 students of the year 2020. The teaching staff of this research does not exercise the teaching function with exclusive dedication, and many of them still work in the main activity of the institution. The theoretical reference was based on the descriptions of Shulman (1987; 2004; 2005; 2007) as to the pedagogical knowledge of content, Tardif (2010; 2014) and Pimenta (2000; 2009) in relation to the knowledge linked to the teaching function. The conceptions of Libâneo (2007) were also used to better understand the pedagogical aspects and the role of the processor. The methodological path was taken in the analysis of normative documents, such as the Pedagogical Political Project of the Course, plan of disciplines of the subjects indicated, as well as in the collection of data from semi-structured questionnaires applied to all subjects and an open interview with the teaching staff of the disciplines. The analysis of quantitative data was performed in the SPSS program, while for qualitative data, content analysis was adopted. The results showed that the instructors (teachers) teach because they have a technical course in the specific area, although they do not have any pedagogical training (64.7%) and most of them have graduation as the maximum level of education (70.6%). The data also points out that many learn to be a teacher during the exercise of teaching practice, and the experiences lived in the practical (operational) work environment are taken and experienced in the classroom, directly influencing the teaching process. It can be concluded that the processes that involve teaching and learning are interfered by the construction of the teaching being and directly influence the training of the professional Firefighter.
