SUMMARY:

This current research fits into Line 3: Formative Processes in Professional and Technological Education, of the Postgraduate Program in Technological Education (PPGET) from Federal Center of Technological Education of Minas Gerais (CEFET-MG). This line of study focuses on work-education area issues in socio-economic and political-cultural contexts, highlighting historical and cultural processes, relationships between social changes, formal and non-formal professional education, and the world of work. Based on theoretical contributions on the Sexual Division of Labor (Hirata and Kergoat, 2002) and Symbolic Violence (Bourdieu, 1975, 2002, 2011), this research problematizes symbolic gender violence, here characterized by moral and sexual harassment in the academic environment, inside a federal institution of professional and technological education. We sought to understand how symbolic gender violence manifests itself in this educational context, how it is perceived and faced by students from technical courses, graduation, and postgraduate students, and what is the Institution's perception of the subject. A bibliographic survey was accomplished on themes discussed in books, thesis bases, dissertations, and indexed articles. Then, semi-structured interviews were performed, remotely, with students from Professional and Technological Education - EPT (current or former), over 18 years old, who experienced this type of violence, in addition to conducting interviews with course coordinators at the various levels involved (Technician, Postgraduate and Graduate). After data collection, excerpts from the interviewees' statements were confronted with theoretical references studied, to interrelate empiricism and theory. The results evidenced several forms of violence suffered by women, mainly in EPT environments. It is expected that the research can lead to debate and reflection, inside and outside federal institutions of technological education, and to make changes in the worldviews and behaviors of all the actors involved in these social plots, providing advances in gender equality in this educational segment.
