SUMMARY:

Professional and Technological Education is inserted in a context in which Brazilian legislation determines that courses are structured by professional profiles according to an approach for training the skills required by the world of job. In the current scenario in which Distance Education (EaD) has gained more and more expressiveness and where there has been increasingly rapid changes in relationships and work methods, mainly impacted by the use of technology, this research aimed to evaluate whether the pedagogical model adopted in EaD has enabled the training of skills, in a High School Technical Course. To achieve this objective, the research was carried out during the second half of 2020 and the first half of 2021, electing a professional education institution in Belo Horizonte and one of its blended courses for the case study. The research with a qualitative approach, with a descriptive and exploratory character, used interviews with teachers and non-participant observation of classes promoted at a distance as data collection techniques. Through the description and use of Categorical Content Analysis, it was possible to build inferences about the elements used as theoretical reference for the pedagogical model of the studied course. As a main result, it was found that the model was affected in relation to the application and assessment strategies of competences, due to the restriction of face-to-face activities by the Covid-19 Pandemic. It was considered the recommendation that the team responsible for the course study a restructuring of the current model, even if it is with the objective of adopting a temporary model for the pandemic period, which guarantees training by competences according to the assumptions epistemological, pedagogical and methodological, adopted by the institution.
