SUMMARY:

Distance Education (DE) is an education modality in full expansion in Brazil. Data from the Analytical Report on Distance Learning in Brazil 2018/2019, published by the Brazilian Association of Distance Education (ABED), points out for another consecutive period, growth in the supply of places and number of students enrolled in distance learning courses in the country. The EAD.BR Census reaches its 11th edition, confirming, once again, the popularization and recognition of this education modality. The number of enrollments in distance learning courses has increased significantly in a decade of data collection. Since its first edition, in 2009, until 2018, the Census EAD.BR registered a growth of 1774% in the number of students enrolled in the national territory. This research aims to analyze whether the Brazilian research in the field of DE, which investigates the competencies required for the pedagogical practice of teachers working in DE, address the competencies postulated by Behar, Schneider and Silva (2013). To carry out this research, we conducted a bibliographic survey of the national academic production of the last five years on teacher training for DE. We conducted the search through a catalog search in the database of the Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD) of the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (IBICT) with the combination of descriptors: teacher training for distance education, teacher training for distance education, teacher training for distance education and teacher training for distance education. This research is characterized as basic in nature, qualitative in its approach, exploratory and descriptive in its objectives, and bibliographical in its procedures. Six stages were fulfilled: presentation of the research theme, its importance and contextualization in the scenario of Brazilian education; systematization and presentation of the research problem, supported by the relative low number of courses offered for specific teacher training for EaD; presentation of the theoretical assumptions; presentation of the methodological path; presentation of the stages of treatment and analysis of selected works, relating them to the assumptions postulated in the model of competencies of Behar, Schneider and Silva (2013); presentation of the final considerations, as well as the general overview of the results obtained throughout the construction of the study. The results obtained allow us to affirm that teacher education for DE is undergoing a process of change and development in Brazil. The studies about teacher competencies for DE point to the identification of those necessary to offer quality education, taking into account the different profiles of students, with different preferences, knowledge, cultures and age groups. The impacts on the education sector caused by the COVID-19 pandemic are bringing about changes in the overall online learning experience. There is still much research to be done on the possible post-pandemic effects, for the need to increase innovative models with the changing study habits imposed by the pandemic.
