SUMMARY:

The engineering graduation courses prepare professionals to work in diverse areas: food, mechanical, electrical, production, and others. It is known that some of these professionals who graduated in engineering become teachers in the courses of Professional and Technological Education (EPT). However, they are not prepared to work as teachers in their graduation degree, since the majority of the engineering courses, different from some other degrees, are not focused on pedagogical formation and for teaching. Searching for better understanding of the formation of the teacher engineer, the objective of this assignment is to analyze the pedagogical formation of teacher engineers that work in mid-level Professional and Technical Education (EPTNM). Semi-structured interviews had been conducted with eight teacher engineers, who work in the EPTNM and who have done any course of pedagogical formation, in diverse campi of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Minas Gerais (IFMG) and of the Federal Center of Technological Education of Minas Gerais (CEFET-MG). For the analysis and interpretation of data, the analysis of content was appealed to and a qualitative approach was used. The results indicated that the interviewed teachers sought the pedagogical formation in graduation courses (degrees) and specialization courses (post-graduation) only after graduating in engineering courses. It was determined that, for the majority of the teachers who participated in the survey, the pedagogical formation has brought significant changes, positively modifying their practice and/or the way they see the educational process. In conclusion, the pedagogical formation has a transforming potential in the way of performing and thinking of the teachers, and it is relevant to the formation of the teacher engineer.
