This work aimed to understand how infographics have been used to explain the theories of Atomic Models in chemistry and natural science and their technologies textbooks for the first year of high school approved for the PNLD 2018 and 2021, in particular those adopted by the CEFET-MG. This research is related to Line IV - Educational Practices and Educational Technologies of the Master's Degree in Technological Education at the Centro Federal de Educação Tecnológica Minas Gerais, as it is an research of a teaching strategy focused on multimodal materials in teaching materials, in particular in textbooks, which can enhance methods stated in theories of cognitive psychology. The methodology started from basic and bibliographic research, the type of approach used was qualitative. To develop the proposal of this investigation, we read the complete chapters and main sections that had the theme of the theories of the Atomic Models in the textbooks of chemistry and natural sciences and their technologies approved for PNLD 2018 and 2021, we collected, categorized and tabulated the data and analyzed them based on the principles of multimodality, infographics and cognitive theories related to the teaching and construction of didactic materials, in particular six of the 12 principles for the construction of multimedia materials proposed by Mayer (2009). After the analyzes, we realized that there was a decrease in the number of infographics in the PNLD 2018 books to the 2021 textbooks, changing from 41 to 28. We also found that of the six principles proposed by Mayer (2009) analyzed in this work, the most present were the principles of Multimedia, Spatial Contiguity within the infographic, Signaling and Redundancy and the least present were the principles of Spatial Contiguity text/infographic, Coherence and Personalization. Regarding the textbooks chosen by the nine units of CEFET-MG, we found that for the PNLD 2018, five of the six available books were selected, and for the PNLD 2021 one of the seven available books was selected. Four units of CEFET-MG chose not to adopt any textbooks for natural sciences and their technologies for the PNLD 2021, because they presented a proposal that did not adapt to the pedagogical project of the course. Based on the results obtained, we understand that the close arrangement of the text and infographics on the pages of the books, the use of concise content and the use of a language personalized to the student are points of attention in the development of these infographics.
