SUMMARY:

This dissertation aimed to present an overview of the history of technology. Making an alien historical trace, we reveal terms that were historically associated with technology, such as: téchnē, technique, ars, arts, mechanical arts, applied science. We realized with the historians of technology that the history of technology has an inseparable link with the history of the concept of technology. Concepts relate to a social place in which they were produced and each term associated with technology was used thinking about this demarcation of spaces, whether professional, social, etc. In this sense, we seek in introductory texts on the Philosophy of Technology to understand the relevance of using the history of the concept of technology for discussions in a field of study that is considered recent by scholars on the subject.
