SUMMARY:

Considering the cognitive value of the conceptual metaphor and its epistemological status from this perspective, the use of metaphors in teaching, as well as the possibilities of the electronic game as a pedagogical instrument in the teaching of History, we were interested in analyzing the appreciable metaphorical representations in The Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim (BETHESDA, 2011), electronic game that has numerous similarities between its audiovisual characteristics and Medieval Scandinavia. The general objective is to analyze the electronic game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (BETHESDA, 2011), seeking to identify and verify possible metaphorical relation between its audiovisual representations and their equivalences in Medieval Scandinavia, as well as to undertake reflections on the possibilities of electronic games as tools in teaching. As a specific objective, this dissertation intends to contribute to Technological Education and to the teaching of History through the metaphorical analysis of the electronic game, considering it as a technology applicable to teaching, thus revealing metaphorical relations that open possibilities for later use as pedagogical instrument, in a context in which fluency in technology has established itself as one of the main educational demands of contemporary man. This dissertation has a descriptive character, as it focuses on the way in which the metaphors are presented in the context of the game in question, thus suggesting the establishment of relations between it and scientific historical knowledge. From this perspective, it is possible to divide the investigation path into two major stages, namely: a) the bibliographical research that will form the technical and theoretical basis through the reading and analysis of academic texts on the themes Metaphors, Representation, Electronic Games and Medieval Scandinavia, b) empirical research, which consists of two phases: phase 1 - analysis of the electronic game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (BETHESDA, 2011), seeking to identify possible metaphorical relations between some of its audiovisual representations and their equivalences in Medieval Scandinavia and phase 2 - the creation of tables illustrating the relations between the domains of metaphors in order to establish the proposed categorization through a mapping of these parallels. The results point to several metaphorical relations between the game and Medieval Scandinavia that can be used in History teaching, opening up possibilities for new research.
