SUMMARY:

This study is situated within the research area of "Educational Practices and Educational Technologies," specifically focusing on the utilization of videos for scientific dissemination and science popularization on YouTube by students in Technological Education (High School Technical Professional Education - HSTPE). The study adopts the Social Semiotic Multimodal Theory (SSMT) proposed by Gunther Kress. The aim of the research is to investigate the viewing habits of HSTPE students, including the most frequently visited channels and disciplines, and whether these views are influenced by teachers or initiated by the students themselves. Additionally, the study explores how students curate the content they consume, examining the selection process, the effectiveness of the videos for learning, their frequency, and other related aspects. The SSMT views meaning and form as interconnected within a sign, which is produced according to the interests of the creators in specific situations. Consequently, this research seeks to comprehend the relationship between scientific audiovisual production, encompassing both dissemination and popularization, and its potential impact on HSTPE students' understanding of classroom content. The data for this study were collected through an online formulary on the Google Forms platform during the last six months of 2022. It is considered a basic research inquiry, employing a quali-quantitative approach to explore a phenomenon. The findings indicate that the audience engagement with these videos contributes to enhanced learning. The study also reveals semiotic similarities among the most viewed channels, particularly those with the highest number of followers and views. Further details regarding these factors are presented in Chapter 5. Additionally, the research participants reported a perceived lack of guidance from teachers regarding online video recommendations.
