This research has as its object the studies about the Alternating Cycle Pedagogy in the context of professional technical high school education (EPTNM) in Brazil and its objective is to review the academic production that deals with the theme and its problems in the period from 1977 to 2021, taking into account its approximations, applications, and challenges in the courses of this level of education, as well as those related to rural education. This is qualitative research, whose main methodology was the literature review on the subject. The hypothesis considered here is that the methodology used in the Alternating Cycle Pedagogy could be applied to the EPTNM, providing a formation in courses whose syllabus goes beyond the activities developed in the field. The results that we reached corroborate the scarcity of research in the area but reinforce the idea that the works developed in and about the field are powerful in the sense that they present important initiatives. Besides, it was perceived that in many places the Alternating Cycle Pedagogy is already linked to the EPTNM, and what is still a barrier is the offer of courses that are sustained through this educational system, because, in its majority, they are courses related to agriculture, fishing and agroecology.
