This study analyzed the policies and actions of retention implemented at CEFET-MG, Divinópolis campus, with the aim of understanding the measures to combat dropout during the pandemic. Dropout is a global problem that affects educational institutions at all levels, characterized by students leaving prematurely before completing their courses. The causes of dropout can be diverse, including financial difficulties, academic challenges, and lack of motivation. Retention policies are implemented by institutions to increase student retention and ensure successful course completion. The study focused on technical professional education, which provides vocational training for high school students. Data was collected at the Divinópolis campus in Minas Gerais through institutional documents. Additionally, a literature review was conducted to provide context on dropout and the measures taken to address it. School dropout is a challenge that requires collective action from the school community, including students, teachers, administrators, and staff, recognizing that everyone plays an educational role in the school environment.
