SUMMARY:

This dissertation focuses on the life projects and worldviews of middle-class integrated-mode students from private schools who received a Medium Level Technical Vocational Education (EPTNM) at the CEFET-MG from 2017 to 2019. Drawing inspiration from previous research by Simões (2019), which centered on students from public schools benefiting from the Affirmative Action Quota Law, this study seeks to understand the experiences of young individuals in the EPTNM environment within the Federal Network of Scientific and Technological Professional Education (RFEPCT), and how this environment has influenced their worldviews and their life projects. To do this, a qualitative investigation was conducted, employing semi-structured interviews with six CEFET students aged between 20 and 21 years. The theoretical framework supporting this research draws from studies by Simões (2019), and Velho (1999), specifically on life projects and worldviews. Using this approach, the study successfully identified this, while exploring their perceptions on these aspects. The findings of this study revealed that the experiences with EPTNM within the RFEPCT are extensive, intense, and encompass various forms of interaction, consequently leading to profound transformations in student outlooks, autonomy, and maturity. These changes facilitated a broader, more reflective, and redefined understanding of how young people perceive, engage with, and act in the world. The heightened interest among the students in relation to topics like politics and society was particularly noteworthy. Additionally, despite belonging to privileged socioeconomic backgrounds, middle-class youth displayed concern for the impoverished portions of society. This indicates that the education provided by CEFET-MG plays a significant role in cultivating critical consciousness amongst its students.
