Contemporary education has undergone considerable changes. Among them, it is important to highlight the need to integrate digital technologies as tools and strategies in education, as well as the readjustment of teaching methodologies to achieve meaningful learning. Thus, the discussion about Active Learning Method (ALM) and its application in the teaching-learning process has been emphasized, which implies an increased performance of the students. Within this scenario, learners are placed as protagonists of their own competency-building. The teacher, in turn, has become a facilitator of the process, guiding the students with the purpose of showing them the best way to acquire knowledge. Therefore, the aim of this Master thesis was to analyze the effectiveness of the Active Learning Methodology use in the Specialist Officer Formation Course, which takes place at Aeronautics Instruction and Adaptation Center (Brazilian Air Force), in Lagoa Santa – a town located in Minas Gerais (MG). To this end, we have carried out a research of basic nature and of a qualitative approach. In addition, in order to meet the established objective, the research is of a descriptive type. As for the technical procedures, we conducted a literature review and a case study in the previously mentioned military school through the administration of online questionnaires to both teacher and students, from 2020 to 2022. For the data treatment and questionnaire analysis, data categorization was chosen as well as the use of the content analysis method proposed by Bardin (2016). The results showed that the proper application of ALM is able to promote meaningful learning and to contribute to students’ development. Moreover, ALM may also help develop distinctive competencies, such as leadership, the ability for teamwork and problem solving. Besides, ALM makes the educational process more dynamic and pleasant. Regarding the instructors and professors’ perceptions, evidence showed that most of them apply active methodologies in class, being flipped-classroom a standout method. Also, this practice within the institution happens effectively and yields significant results in the teaching and learning process, benefiting both teachers and students.
