SUMMARY:

Professional training is fundamental for police officers to perform quality work and achieve better results in their areas of operation. Considering the demands of society and the need for police officers to constantly update themselves, the Civil Police of Minas Gerais (PCMG), through the Police Academy of Minas Gerais (Acadepol-MG), has been offering courses in the Distance Education (DE) modality since 2017. It is believed that DE is a great option for those who have time and distance restrictions or prefer flexible study, as it allows for professional improvement in a convenient way without compromising personal and professional activities, in addition to expanding access to qualification. Therefore, considering that professional training should be continuous, permanent, and focused on good quality education, this research aimed to analyze how the training process has occurred in DE of Acadepol-MG, from the perspective of the perceptions that civil police officers have when participating in a course in this education modality at the institution. In the Theoretical Framework, the following were addressed: Professional and Technological Education, the DE, the importance of DE to train and qualify PCMG servers, and DE offered by Acadepol-MG. A qualitative descriptive type research approach was carried out. Regarding the technical procedure, a case study was adopted. As a data collection instrument, a questionnaire was used. The research was divided into two stages: the first involved describing the characteristics of the Virtual Learning Environment (AVA) and how the distance training process is carried out at Acadepol-MG, through a non-participatory online observation of the AVA and the chosen course; the second stage involved identifying the profile of the students; presentation of the facilitating and motivating aspects, as well as the difficulties encountered; pointing out the learnings obtained and checking the course and tutors' evaluations. For this, the students' registration on the DE platform and the online questionnaires were analyzed. This master's dissertation brought innovative research and contributions in the area of DE of Acadepol-MG. Based on the studies carried out and the perceptions of the civil police officers who participated in the research, it was found that the training process has been seen as an opportunity for continuous and quality updating, allowing access to knowledge relevant to the improvement of professional practices. However, it was verified that there is a need for technical and pedagogical improvements in the courses offered, aiming to further enhance the educational experience. The results concluded that it is evident that professional training in DE is an indispensable resource for the modernization and improvement of police practices. Consequently, DE generates more efficient and effective performance in combating crime and promoting public safety.
