SUMMARY:

The research reported here deals with the relationship between memories of experiences in Physical Education in Vocational Training at CEFET-MG, between 1990 and 1995, and the experiences with bodily leisure practices in the adult lives of graduates from that period. Specifically, we sought to (i) prospect the leisure activities currently practiced by these graduates; (ii) identify the Physical Education activities experienced by them, based on their memories; and (iii) correlate the bodily movement practices pointed out in their adult lives with the Physical Education practices experienced at school during the period in which they were students in the EPTNM courses. The time frame considered the importance of the period in confirming the place of Physical Education as a curricular discipline, based on the transformations that took place in its programs/course plans and in its theoretical-methodological conception, as well as the demands made in the 1980s for national education as an important factor in overcoming the duality between general and professional education, with a view to institutionalizing an integrated curriculum. This qualitative study used oral history as an important data collection strategy, through semi- structured interviews with graduates of the EPTNM, as well as documentary research in available CEFET-MG archives. The data was analyzed considering studies by authors linked to Physical Education, leisure and Professional and Technological Education, such as Carmen Lúcia Soares, Lino Castellani Filho, Valter Bracht, Joffre Dumazedier, Nelson Carvalho Marcellino, Acácia Kuenzer, Gaudêncio Frigotto, Maria Ciavatta and Marise Ramos. The results found point to possible relationships between what was stored in the memory about the practices experienced in Physical Education classes and how they relate to leisure experiences in adult life. It was possible to deduce that the affective/positive bonds established in Physical Education classes, reported in the interviews, are correlated with the presence of physical activity (and sports) practices in the leisure activities listed by these subjects in their adult lives. In addition to the professional training of the subjects involved, the research showed that, for most of these subjects, school physical education had a certain influence on their choice of leisure activities. It should be noted, however, that there is still a lot to investigate in the field of School Physical Education in the context of professional training and its interrelations and correlations with leisure.
