SUMMARY:

This dissertation presents the results of a master's research in Technological Education, conducted in the field of studies on Physics Teaching grounded in analogies and models, within the context of a research line on Educational Practices and Educational Technologies. Its research object is the pedagogical potentials of an analog model of an electric circuit built through digital prototyping for use in teaching basic concepts of Electrodynamics. As the study of Electrodynamics involves highly abstract concepts, the use of models and analogies is particularly important in teaching and learning this subject. Analogies are employed in Physics education to encourage students to associate supposedly more familiar and known phenomena with the physical phenomena under study. In teaching basic concepts of electrodynamics, a widely used analogy by teachers in the classroom and in textbooks is the analogy between hydraulic and electric circuits. Models, in turn, can be seen as bridges between scientific theory and the world as we experience it, and can be used for a variety of purposes. Among different types of models, we will work with those planned and materialized as educational resources, based on analogies to represent a target physical phenomenon. These models, called analog models, can be significant mediating resources for teaching Electrodynamics because they enable abstractions to be materialized, and analogical relations to be grouped, stimulating integrated learning of these concepts. In this context, this research was guided by the following question: Considering both structural, semantic and pragmatic aspects, as well as the perceptions of Physics teachers, how does the use of an analogical model, based on the comparison between hydraulic and electric circuits and developed through digital prototyping, contribute to the teaching of basic concepts of Electrodynamics? The investigative method employed to answer the research question involved exploring some comparisons made between hydraulic and electric circuits by grouping elements and relations of this analogy in the construction of a digital prototype of the analog model. After digital prototyping, content analysis of interviews conducted with teachers of professional and technological education at the secondary level, and structural mapping of this model was performed. These two stages allowed us to make inferences regarding the pedagogical potential of this resource for use in teaching basic concepts of Electrodynamics. The results indicate that the prototyped analog model is a didactic artifact with promising potential, favoring the understanding of fundamental physical quantities in the study of electric circuits, such as electric current, electric potential difference, and resistance to the passage of electric current.
