THE TEACHING OF DRAWING IN THE WRITING OF DOCTOR ABÍLIO CÉSAR BORGES
The teaching of drawing in the writing of doctor Abilio Cesar Borges
In this dissertation, we aim to present the results analyzed about Abílio Cesar Borges. The Speeches and teaching drawing works for professional education, as well as for education in a broad sense, however present in Popular practical geometry and linear drawing, published in 1878. The approach considered the notion of an intellectual outlined by Sirinelli (2003) Gomes and Hansen (2016), presenting Borges' trajectory, networks, sociability belonging to an imperial intellectual elite, factors influenced by his performance and speeches. Furthermore, the context of teaching drawing in that period was examined, its dualities relationships with the ideas of industrial progress. Methodological support was provided through the political discourse analysis category of Charaudeau (2018), Orlandi (2009) and Brandão (2004). As an analytical corpus, we use the prologue book, Popular Geometry and Linear Drawing (BORGES, 1878), seeking to reveal the author's discursive strategies, socio-historical and ideological context. The speech analyzed by the prologue revealed a true manifesto, pointing out the teaching drawing as an underlying element to train professionals throughout the 19th century.
