RESUMO:

Earth’s building are known by man for thousands years. Among the known techniques, the compressed earth block is stands out because they are a product that dispenses the burning phase, besides the benefits as thermal and acoustic performance in accordance with the current norms. Among the types of stabilization of blocks, there is the chemical stabilization that can be by alkaline activation. The alkaline activation consists in obtain a binder from aluminosilicate materials in highly alkaline solutions. The compacted blocks have the capacity to incorporate industrial waste, minimizing the environmental impacts caused by the incorrect disposal of these materials in nature. That way, two residues generated in large scale by industrial processes: ashes of thermoelectric biomass and iron ore tailings were used to make alkaline activated compacted blocks. As a contribution to sustainable development, the objective of this work was to develop blocks using these wastes respecting the normative requirements. To characterize the ash and tailings the work uses microscopy, X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, X-ray diffraction, differential and thermogravimetric analysis, fire loss, laser diffraction granulometry. Three composition ratios in the activator (SiO2/Na2O = 1,00 , 1,55 and 1,85) and three different ash an tail ratio (30-70, 50-50,70-30) were tested. To characterize these samples this work uses compressive strength and water absorption at 7 and 28 days. The trace with ash/tail ratio 70/30 and SiO2/Na2O = 1,55 showed the best performance. With this, expected to make the blocks with this trace and the evaluation the physical, mechanical and durability of the blocks.
