RESUMO:

Diesel oil is composed of hydrocarbons and the soil contaminated by this fossil fuel is usually investigated by direct methods which are costly. The geophysical methods are considered an alternative for the detection of contamination plumes, especially electrical resistivity that may capture resistivity differences in soils with and without contaminant. Moreover, this technique can help to understand the biodegradation effects of diesel oil, since microbial growth can cause changes in soil structure and consequently in its resistivity. Therefore, the present work aims to evaluate the resistivity of contaminated soil, considering the soil grain size, the contaminant concentration and the contamination age. Laboratorial controlled experiments will be performed on a cylindrical PVC experimental apparatus, associated with two current and two potential copper electrodes. Unsaturated soils (with different water additions of 75%, 65% and 55%) of different particle size (<4.8 mm to 0.05 mm and <0.05 mm) and different concentrations of diesel oil (5%, 15% and 25%) will be tested. The effect of age will be assessed at 5 monthly measurements. The effect of factor variation on resistivity will be evaluated by ANOVA statistical tool, subsidizing technical information for further application of this technique in situ.
