ANALYSIS OF THE TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY OF REUSE OF DISPOSED CASTING SAND (ADF) AS AGGREGATE IN GEOPOLIMERIC MORTARS
Waste Foundry Sand (WFS), Foundry Sand, Geopolymer, Alkali-activated
The search for sustainable alternatives in the foundry industry has become essential, due to the high rate of sub products generated from the production of castings. Waste Foundry Sand (WFS) has a high representativeness in this waste, and sustainable practices such as management and destination are increasingly applied. This article reviews the literature related to the use and efficiency of ADF in the construction industry, its physical and chemical properties, and proposals for its use applied with Alkali-Activated materials. First, conceptual information about the foundry, its process and the Brazilian and global industry Outlook were detailed. Afterwards, the Waste Foundry Sand is specified, with its physical-chemical characteristics and how it is managed in recycling, in addition to the description of studies and applications in civil construction throughout the world, such as construction of embankments on highways and roads, improvement stabilization and reinforcement of the soil, flowable fill, construction of hydraulic barriers, production of pavement blocks and brick blocks, and mixing in asphalt cement. Finally, the geopolymer materials were studied, with their properties and benefits, with the application proposal of ADF, granulated blast furnaces lag and sodium hydroxide to obtain properties with high chemical resistance and strength.
