RESUMO:

The present study is a research, which aims to discuss, theoretically, the importance of the reading of the image books for the formation of the student reader. This study is linked to the line III of research "Language, Teaching, Learning and Technology" of the Post-Graduate Program in Language Studies of Cefet-MG. The main objective of this work is to analyze how the teacher uses the image book, in a class of 4th year of elementary school, for the training of reading subjects through mediation activities. The research will be developed from observations of the methodology of teaching work, as well as interviews with a teacher who develops this work in a Public School of the Municipal Teaching Network of the City Hall of Belo Horizonte - MG. To this end, the following specific objectives were elaborated: to identify the objectives of the teacher when working with picture books with students of the 4th year of elementary school; investigate the criteria for choosing the picture books used by the teacher in working with the students; identify the reading skills explored by the teacher from the work with the picture books; describe and analyze the stages of teaching work in the classroom with literary picture books. It is a qualitative research that will present a descriptive approach and collect the data in a direct source. The observations of the work practices as well as the interviews will be carried out in the classroom itself, seeking to verify the comprehension and appropriation of the individuals in relation to the work with the picture books. The main purpose of the observation and analysis of the methodology of teaching work will be to perceive in the students the reading skills that will be explored from these supports, aiming at the formation of the reader subject.
