SUMMARY:

The research proposes an analysis of the rhetorical strategies, values and political imaginaries mobilized by a politician who identifies himself as belonging to the right in the online environment, whose speech has been marked by a controversial dimension and has been classified by several studies in Science Politics and other domains as a representative of the extreme right, a political spectrum characterized by the defense of neoconservative values that involves issues such as the extinction of policies to combat homophobia and inclusive perceptions of the family entity and also by speeches marked by what has been called “hate speech”. To this end, a quantitative-qualitative analysis was carried out on publications made on JB's official profile on X (Twitter), between the years 2015 and 2022, in order to analyze how they indicate political values identified with a neoconservative discourse. For the proposed debate, we took as a basis studies developed by French AD, in particular, by Semiolinguistics. Based on the proposed analysis, we intended to answer the following questions: what would be the features of a Brazilian neoconservative discourse? On which thematic axes, lexical recurrences, rhetorical strategies, ethé, ideological values and socio-discursive imaginaries is it based? What linguistic forms, lexical choices and formulaic expressions are used to evoke such values and imaginaries? To answer the proposed questions, the analyses were divided into two stages. In the first one, of quantitative nature, we aimed to verify the recurrences, on a verbal level, indicators of what has been called neoconservative discourse. In the second stage, of qualitative nature, publications that discuss controversies in the public sphere were selected, linked to the most recurrent thematic axes of neoconservative discourse, and then an analysis of the signs-symptoms that mobilize value systems was carried out. The analyses were able to provide symptoms about the argumentative strategies that have been attributed to a Brazilian extreme right, its fundamental thematic axes, the main rhetorical strategies adopted, as well as an indication of the political values and imaginaries (re)mobilized over the years and which involves traits such as the demonization of enemies, the refutation of pluralist discourses, the loss of an idyllic origin and its fundamental bases, the recycling of the old “anti-communism”, the intensification of agonistic structures and dichotomization that presents irreconcilable exclusionary positions.
