SUMMARY:

Emergency Remote Teaching (ERE) during the COVID-19 pandemic marked a historical moment for education and teacher training, combining digital devices and multimodal texts in pedagogical practices. In the context of the digital age, multiliteracies and multimodality have become central concepts for education, reflecting the ability to interpret and produce meanings through different modes of communication, including texts, images, videos, and other semiotic resources. This study investigates the multiliteracies of students and teachers in Pedagogy and Language courses at a public higher education institution in Minas Gerais/Brazil, using the digital mural Padlet during ERE. The research seeks to explore the meanings constructed by the participants when revisiting their productions on Padlet during ERE and the significance they attribute to multiliteracy practices. Additionally, it examines whether the use of Padlet facilitated interactions that enhanced the multiliteracies of students and teachers during and after pandemic period. The research methodology involves three stages of data collection and analysis, namely: 1) documentary analysis of texts produced and posted on Padlet, from a multimodal perspective; 2) interviews with two professors from the participating courses; and 3) a focus group with students to identify the appropriations that potentially expanded multiliteracies and the possibilities of using this tool in pedagogical activities. By the time of the qualification phase, stages 1 and 2 of data collection and analysis had already been completed. Preliminary results show that the Padlet tool helped increase the multiliteracies of the research participants. The data collected indicate that students and teachers were able to explore and integrate multiple modes of communication and expression, which facilitated a broader and more diverse understanding of the content being worked on. So far, the research has demonstrated that using Padlet as a pedagogical tool expanded the possibilities for teaching and learning, promoting the integration of different semiotic modes and technological resources. The study reveals that ERE, by combining digital technologies and multimodal pedagogical practices, not only responded to emergency needs but also paved the way for innovations in higher education, especially in the training of future teachers.
