NEW PAC-ENGLISH: Educational game for developing pronunciation of English words
educational game, implicit instruction, English pronunciation, autonomous learning.
This research aims to develop the educational game Novo Pac-English, which uses implicit instruction to promote the learning of English pronunciation words. The game seeks to provide an autonomous learning experience, where players acquire skills and knowledge through practice and interaction with the game, without the need for explicit instructions. The research is based on theoretical foundations of implicit learning and gamification in the educational context. Implicit learning involves the development of intuitive skills through experience and observation, allowing players to identify patterns, anticipate moves and make strategic decisions. This approach stimulates creativity, critical thinking and the development of transferable skills. Novo Pac-English presents music as a distinctive feature, using it as a key element to increase players' engagement with the game and promote their interaction with learning. Through implicit instruction, musical challenges provide players with opportunities to practice and improve their pronunciation skills in a playful and engaging way. The research includes the game development phase, taking into account aspects of usability, playability, repeatability and instructional design, based on tests and evaluations to ensure the operationalization of the theoretical principles studied via programming. The research methodologies adopted include, in addition to the bibliographic review, two detailed descriptions – one of the first version of the game, called Pac-English, and the other of the development of Novo Pac-English, with the exposure and explanation of the choices made. It is expected that this thesis can contribute to the advancement of research in the area of language learning through educational games. In addition, it is expected that Novo Pac-English will be tested and validated soon and that its commercial version will be developed, so that it can be used as an effective tool in the educational context, helping Brazilian children to develop their English pronunciation skills in a fun and interactive way.
