POOR BELLA, SHE IS A RUIN: fictions of the feminine and bodily boundaries.
Pobres Criaturas; Poor Things; cinema; feminine; body.
This study aims to study the meanings associated with the feminine and the hybrid body of the character Bella Baxter from the work Poor Creatures. Released in 2023, the science fiction film tells the story of a woman who comes back to life at the hands of an eccentric scientist. In this way, the character is presented as an experiment, a reconfiguration, a monster that in itself escapes the naturalization of the body, gender and the feminine as fixed, biological, social and historical categories. Through bibliographical and analytical research, the investigation will seek to understand the development of the character as a metaphor that tensions the corporal boundaries and that mobilizes and destabilizes the fictional field of representations of the feminine. To this end, we will articulate the character's journey of self-discovery with the theoretical reflections of Judith Butler, Donna Haraway, Jack Halberstam, José Gil, Michel Foucault, Friedrich Nietzsche, Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari.
