Fabulation and memory: a look at Michel Laub's literature
Fabulation. Memory. Literature
The proposal of this thesis focuses on a study of Michel Laub’s books: The
second time (2006), The cat says goodbye (2009) and The poisoned apple
(2013). In this work, the features of memory, forgetfulness and invention are
highlighted based on the analysis of the past, present and future times. In the first
chapter the analyses focus on the images of the past seen through the eyes of
creation. Theoretical-critical texts: Walter Benjamin, Henri Bergson, Gilles
Deleuze and Félix Guattari, Jacques Derrida, George Didi-Huberman, Gagnebin,
Jacques Rancière. The second chapter seeks to reflect on the literary traits of
essay, memory and fiction in the The poisoned apple (LAUB, 2013) dialoguing
with the following authors: Philippe Artières, Aleida Assmann, Affonso
Berardinelli, Natalia Brizuela, Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, Georges DidiHuberman, Camile Dumoulié, Jacques Rancière. The third chapter will be written
keeping in mind the investigation of memory and fabulation. In this context, it is
worth engaging in a dialogue with the perspective of Deleuze's philosophy
developed with Félix Guattari. The aim is to study the manifestations of lack of
memory, the marker of silence and the gaps present in narratives. In this way, it
is worth thinking with Nietzsche about people being more forgetful producers than
memory makers. The fourth chapter will be developed with a view to a historical
and sociocultural contextualization that is important for reading Laub’s works. The
art of forgetting and producing memory will be a topic discussed with Harald
Weinrich, an author who addresses this theme and reflects on the River Lethe,
highlighting elements of social order that affects language. Thus, a debate is
established regarding the creative processes that touch on memories and
communications, and inaugurates a new era considering the occupation of
spaces by the arts.
