SUMMARY:

The Brazilian socio-educational system can be defined as the set of policies, institutions, and practices aimed at holding adolescents accountable for their criminal acts, based on the principles established in the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA) and the National Socio-Educational Assistance System (SINASE). The socio-educational measure of internment, considered the most restrictive within the socio-educational system, should be understood as a sanction for the act committed and, at the same time, as a pedagogical opportunity aimed at reconstructing trajectories and promoting the process of subjectivation of adolescents, leading them to recognize themselves as subjects of rights, reconfiguring their identities, redefining previous experiences, and building new life projects. However, studies show that the life trajectories of young people served by the socio-educational system are permeated by social vulnerabilities, which often reflect historical social constructions in our country. Given this context, in which individuals must take responsibility for their actions and develop future projects that are unrelated to crime, yet aware that, upon release, they will likely return to the same social conditions as before their incarceration, we ask: how do young people deprived of liberty represent the processes of (dis)identification with crime and develop the (re)signification of social values? Within the field of Semiolinguistic Discourse Analysis, this research aimed to analyze how these young people, in and through enunciative activity, signal indices of subjectivity that reveal processes of identity (de)construction of individuals in conflict with the law and mobilize interdiscourses and socio-discursive imaginaries of accountability and (re)socialization. Our theoretical framework presents the socio-educational measure of internment, based on current legislation and normative instruments; describes the use of life narratives as a research method, based on Arfuch (2010, 2013), Delory-Momberger (2009, 2012, 2016, 2018), Bertaux (2006, 2010), and Machado (2016); and presents the premises of Discourse Analysis based on Charaudeau's Semiolinguistic Theory (2014). Methodologically, the study had to follow ethical precepts determined by the Secretariat of Justice and Public Security of Minas Gerais before we began data collection, which was carried out through semi-structured interviews with a young man serving a socio-educational measure of internment. The reports were recorded and transcribed to later be subdivided into three categories determined a priori: experiences prior to hospitalization, the realities of deprivation of liberty and future projects developed during the (re)socialization process.
