SUMMARY:

In 2011, Patricio Pron published the book My Father’s Ghost is Climbing in the Rain [El espíritu de mis padres sigue subiendo en la lluvia], whose narrative is assembled from fragments. These fragments, which do not necessarily follow a linear chronological order, are like images of memories of the narrator, who, after years of self-imposed exile in Germany, returns tohis homeland, Argentina, due to his father's illness. It is during this return that the narrator-character is confronted with his past and that of his family. As the plot unfolds, it becomes clear that the story of the accountant also intersects with the history of his homeland, since the backdrop is the Argentine civil-military dictatorship (1976-1983). The aim is to study, thus, based on qualitative bibliographic research, the fragmentary and imagistic writing of Patricio Pron (2018). To this end, we will use the texts of German philosopher Walter Benjamin (1996; 2007; 2023) and French art historian Georges Didi-Huberman (2010; 2011; 2017; 2018; 2024) to undertake this analysis. In addition to them, other authors who will support the debate are Beatriz Sarlo (2000; 2021), Claus Clüver (2024), Florencia Garamuño (2014), Italo Calvino (2000), João Barrento (2010), Josefina Ludmer (2010), Pilar Calveiro (2013) and Susan Sontag (2012).
