A curve of wind: old age and resilience in the work of Maria Valéria Rezende
old age; resilience; Maria Valéria Rezende
Starting from the intention of promoting historical reparation and valuing works and authors who deal with old age, this research investigates three novels by the writer Maria Valéria Rezende in which the theme is addressed. Based primarily on the studies of Simone de Beauvoir (2018), Teresa de Lauretis (1994), and Mary del Priore (2025), I intend to show how Rezende's protagonists portray the exclusion of older women in society. I also highlight how feminist research has addressed this topic. The premise of old age as a characteristic of exclusion that has shaped the history of humanity also appears prominently in literature. In *Carta à rainha louca* (2019), *Outros Cantos* (2016), and *Quarenta dias* (2014), novels by Maria Valéria Rezende in which the protagonists are older and active women, something different happens: they face prejudice and resist abuse and oppression in various ways. Studies and research focusing on this rich yet little-known topic will contribute to the appreciation and diversity of literature both within and outside the country.
