The Decision-Making Process of New Business: a study with brazilian expatriates above the light of the Effectuation decision model
Entrepreneurship; Decision-making Process; Effectiveness; Expatriate
Considered a recent approach in the field of entrepreneurship research, the Effectuation model proposes that entrepreneurs usually start their businesses with no pre-defined objectives, inverting the key principles and the rational predictive logic of the causal paradigm commonly taught in entrepreneurship classes. In this sense, this research aimed to study the decision-making process in the creation of new businesses by expatriate Brazilians and to understand how this reality is related to the Effectuation decision model proposed by Sarasvathy (2001a). To achieve this goal, it was necessary to establish a theoretical framework that would conceptually support research on entrepreneurship, the Effectuation and Causation theories and the reality of Brazilian expatriation. For the methodological approach, was chose for conducting a qualitative research through semi-structured interviews with expatriate Brazilian entrepreneurs residing in Orlando (Florida - United States). For the future discussion of the results, it is intended to conduct a content analysis guided by previously defined thematic units.
