SUMMARY:

The depressive disorder, known as depression, is a condition that can be triggered by a variety of simultaneous factors. However, it has become increasingly common for it to emerge as a mental illness related to occupational activities, worsening when the worker does not receive appropriate treatment, which can lead to it being classified as an occupational disease. This research is intrinsically linked to decision-making processes since its focus is on analyzing depression in the workplace of military personnel who sought medical assistance at an Aeronautics Military Organization in Lagoa Santa. The choice of this topic proves highly relevant in light of changes in global health and disease patterns, raising concerns among professionals in various fields. Psychological and mental distress, often resulting from exhaustive work schedules, can lead to depression. These concerns are fundamental to decision-making processes related to the health and well-being of military personnel. The research methodology adopted was based on a case study with a descriptive research approach. The sample included 195 active professionals of the Brazilian Air Force in Lagoa Santa. To assess the level of depression in the sample, an internal FAB questionnaire was used, which adheres to the standards and criteria of the Beck Scale. The results obtained through this empirical research conducted in the FAB in Lagoa Santa point to significant levels of depression, with particularly high rates among CIAAR (29.69%) and PAMALS (29.69%) military personnel, non-commissioned officers (47%), S2 (25%), males (81%), aged between 18 and 22 (36%), and the year 2019 showing the highest occurrence (31%). In conclusion, it is possible to affirm that several factors contribute to the development of depression in military personnel, and these findings have important implications for decision-making processes related to human resource management, occupational health, and well-being policies in the Armed Forces. The work environment, excessive demands, task overload, exposure to challenging situations, and human, social, and family issues all play crucial roles in the mental health of military personnel, influencing the need for strategic decision-making aimed at promoting health and preventing depression.
