SUMMARY:

This work aims to contribute to the optimization of the charcoal production process, which is the final product from the biomass carbonization process, which occurs through physical-chemical transformations. This study is subdivided into two distinct work fronts. The first will evaluate the artificial drying of samples of eucalyptus logs using a convection oven, with which it is intended to evaluate the influence of the variables mass/area ratio of the log, temperature and initial moisture content, aiming to optimize the time required in the step of drying the logs before the carbonization itself. In the second part of the work, carbonization will be carried out in an instrumented carbonization plant of residual Amazonian native biomass in order to characterize the by-products generated in the process, in order to contribute to the search for compounds of commercial interest that can be recovered and isolated. Thus, the principles of green engineering will be taken as a basis during planning and experimental development, seeking to contribute to the theme of sustainable steelmaking and the sustainability of products and processes.
