Educational and Professional Success Expectations. Emotional Health. Professional and Technological Education
This research focused on the mental/emotional health of students of Professional and Technological Education. The objective was to investigate the expectations of academic and professional success and their relationship with the students' emotional suffering/illness. Thus, we made a sample, in which the students of the third year of High School Technical Professional Education – HSTPE in the integrated modality were researched to achieve this objective. This is a study with a qualitative, interpretive approach, using questionnaires as a data collection instrument. The collected data were interpreted by the method of content analysis in Bardin, through which three categories were created: "Success expectation" in which the objective was to identify the expectations of academic and professional success from the perspective of students, the second category "The impact between expectation and reality in mental health", verified the existing impact between the expectation and reality experienced by adolescents when entering the institution, during the course of training, in addition to aspects that could somehow interfere in their mental health, finally the category “Mental health risk and/or protective factors” which aimed at identifying the risk and/or protective factors for the mental health of students. These categories were relevant to the research and data analysis, because, through them we identified that students are crossed by numerous factors such as: bullying, gender issues in the choice of courses, family pressure and expectations regarding the labor market that can affect mental health and therefore it is necessary to expand spaces that discuss this issue and go beyond the walls of the school, thus strengthening the protective factors. In this perspective, after studying the results, the educational product “Let's talk about mental health at school” was developed, an event carried out through a webinar in which a psychologist specializing in adolescent health participated for discussion based on questions presented by the students and also on the analysis of data collected in the survey
