BIG AREA: Ciências Humanas
AREA: Educação
SUMMARY:

The present study consists of an applied research of a descriptive nature, which seeks to analyze the extension policy at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Minas Gerais (IFMG) - Formiga campus and the promotion of inclusion in the external community, in particular the inclusion of deaf people in formal education. The motivation came through the personal experience of learning Libras and living with the deaf community, in addition to acting as an educational interpreter in Elementary School, which aroused interest in facilitating the inclusion of deaf people in formal education. At that time, attention was drawn to the lack of inclusive and visual didactic resources for the deaf, who communicate and interact with the world through visual experiences, according to the definition given by decree 5.626/2005. Later, when working at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Minas Gerais, we became involved with the public policy of "Curricularization of Extension". From there came the research proposal, which aims to reflect on the concept of extension in EPT; the concept of inclusion and the concept of deafness; identify the main extension initiatives at the IFMG - Formiga campus; to analyze, from the extension actions, the contribution of the academiccommunity of the IFMG - Campus Formiga for the inclusion, particularly of the deaf in formal education; develop a transdisciplinary and inclusive extension project to be developed at IFMG - Campus Formiga. The research is justified in the dialogue between the academic community and society as a pillar of Technological Professional Education - EPT and a principle of extension. The relevance of this study, therefore, lies in its contribution to advancing reflections and actions for the inclusion of deaf people in formal education, especially in EPT. The study will use a qualitative approach. The research techniques employed will be bibliographic research and document analysis. A bibliographical research involves a review and analysis of secondary sources of information, such as books and articles, seeking to explore different sources of information on the subject and identify gaps and contributions to the area. Document analysis is used as a primary source of research, based on spreadsheets made available by the IFMG Innovation Research and Postgraduate Extension Sector - Formiga campus, referring to extension activities from 2008 onwards. It is expected that the research will result in a transdisciplinary extension project involving students and teachers of the Degree in Mathematics and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science courses, with the objective of developing a technological resource, in the form of an application, that helps not only the deaf, but also other students with difficulties in basic mathematical operations. The project seeks to promote citizenship awareness and contribute to the transformation of a more humane, egalitarian and fair world based on a fundamental principle of the EPT: community outreach.
