SUMMARY:

This study aims to analyze the problem of School Dropout in Professional and Technological Education (EPT) in an institution of the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education (Federal Network): the Federal Center for Technological Education of Minas Gerais (CEFET-MG) - Araxá Campus. The focus of the analysis is on the Medium Level Technical Course in Mining, in the concomitant and subsequent modalities, offered at night. Recognizing that school dropout is a complex and multifactorial factor, influenced by sociocultural, economic, political and educational factors, the relevance of this study lies in enriching the debate on this topic and contributing to the search for effective solutions to this critical challenge of Brazilian education. In this way, the objective is to establish an overview of the relationship between education, schools and society, with an emphasis on understanding the reasons that lead students to abandon this specific course. To achieve this objective, an approach is adopted that includes a literature review highlighting the historical context of the right to education, EPT education and school dropout, placing them within the social, political and economic context, aiming to present the situation of current thinking of educational institutions on this topic. Subsequently, the objective is to diagnose this issue in the aforementioned educational institution, through monitoring of dropout rates, in the aforementioned course, for a period of five years (2018 to 2022). Finally, critical reflections on school dropout at EPT are sought through the analysis of the perceptions of the different subjects involved in the educational process, and the development of strategies to reduce dropout rates at the Araxá Campus. Bibliographical research, documentary research, interviews and questionnaires will be used as data collection instruments. As educational product proposals, it is suggested the creation of a Permanence and Success Committee, which will focus on proposing and implementing continuous actions to reduce school dropout rates, at all levels and types of education offered at the institution.
