SUMMARY:

Phosphorus, in the form of phosphate, is one of the three main nutrients used by plants, making it an important component in the manufacture of fertilizers. The mining industry supplies the raw material for its production: phosphate rock. In Brazil, the main phosphate mineralizations are associated with Alto Paranaíba Igneous Province, a series of alkaline-carbonatitic intrusions that have undergone supergenic enrichment processes. The mine in study is part of this Province. The study of a deposit from the geometallurgical point of view aims to consider the existence of different ore types that represent the intrinsic variability of geological events that generate a mineralization. An ore typology or geometallurgical domain is defined as a continuous portion of space in which geological properties (such as grades, lithology, weathering levels, form of mineralization, among others) are homogeneous. Thus, it is possible to add predictability to the process by modeling the specific process response of these domains and their mixtures. With the mining advance at the mine under study, the exploitation of ore from weathering horizons different from the oxidized ore, which is more enriched and traditionally explored, began. As a result of this change, smaller than expected process recoveries were experienced. The purpose of this work is mineral and technological characterization of ore types additional to oxidized ore. As part of the methodology, geological reconnaissance of the ore typologies on the mining fronts was carried out; selection of drill cores for chemical analysis and sampling; and also technological characterization of the samples. From the data generated, statistical treatment will be carried out to identify geometallurgical domains and generate cartographic products associated with equations to predict the recovery of apatite. It is expected that the modeling of the process behavior of additional ore typologies can generate a reduction in processing costs and better use of the deposit.
