Mining companies have increasingly looked to eliminating the tailings disposal in dams due to the major accidents that have happened in the last decade. Dry tailings disposal technology has been the most widely used option to keep the productivity, the water recirculation in the process and the disposal of the tailings safely. The filters used (press, drum, disc and other filters) have variables that need to be controlled in detail, such as the type of filter cloth that is used as a filter medium, where for each particle size, abrasiveness and percentage of solids, a different filter cloth type will be needed. Another way to help keep the productivity, in addition to the characteristics of the filter cloth, is the use of chemical filtration assistants, which can reduce the moisture of the tailings to be deposited, thus increasing the recirculation of process water and can assist in increasing the filtration rate. In this sense, this work will seek the best results to achieve an optimal moisture and the highest possible filtration rate, using chemical filtration assistants and different filter cloths. To achieve these objectives, bench filtration tests (Leaf Tests), with vacuum filter, will be performed using process water, tap water, paper filters, filter cloths and chemical filtration assistants supplied by recognised companies in national and international mining operations. For this, a tailings sample from the AngloGold Ashanti company was used, located in the city of Crixás, in the state of Goiás. The tests will be performed in the Mineral Treatment Laboratory of CEFET – MG and the optimization of the results will be carried out using the Minitab software. The filtration tests will be performed using a bench vacuum filter. The use of chemical filtration assistants and filter cloths showed, in exploratory tests, that it is possible to achieve optimal moisture for industrial scale, as well as increase the filtration rate.
