TITLE:

Technological proposals to reduce the operating cost of air conditioners in social multifamily housing

KEY WORDS:

Social housing; Energy simulation; Climate control equipment; Electric power consumption.

PAGES: 100
BIG AREA: Engenharias
AREA: Engenharia Mecânica
SUMMARY:

The research consists of evaluating strategic applications to reduce the cost of electricity for air conditioners in a social housing located in the city of Rio de Janeiro with the help of thermoenergy simulations. To apply and evaluate the results of the application of the strategies, the use of the following “software”, Sketchup, Open Studio, Energy Plus and RStudio was adopted. The constructive characteristics, usage and occupation routines and consumption profile were based on a reference building. The technical characteristics for dimensioning the equipment were based on the Brazilian Reference Standards NBR 16401 (2008) and NBR 16555 (2018). The Energy Plus software was asked about the potential of hours within the acceptability range for air temperature and relative humidity, considering the naturally ventilated environment, it was found a low percentage of hours of temperature and relative humidity when considering the range recommendation by ANVISA (2003), around an average of 23.52% and 45.21% respectively, considering one year of analysis. Subsequently, the estimate of the thermal load per house was requested. It was observed that statistically the surroundings helped to minimize the thermal load in the indoor environments. There was a variation in the thermal load per pavement, but without a statistically significant difference. After modeling the air conditioners in the apartments, there was a significant improvement in the percentage of indoor temperature and relative humidity around an average of 7.74% and 65.27% respectively. However, this improvement in the quality of indoor environments required an electrical energy consumption equivalent to 15,368.45 kWh. In other words, there was an increase of 37.20% in the building's total electricity consumption. Thus, it is necessary to investigate strategies to reduce the operating cost of air conditioners and seek more expressive improvements with regard to the thermal quality of indoor environments.
