RESUMO:

This research focuses on the Guilherme Mansur’s work, whose polymathic nature presents a prismatic matrix mixing technical, artistic, literary and editorial knowledge and is therefore transdisciplinary. Started in typography, he transits in editing, poetry, performance, design and photography. We start from a hypothesis about the poetic creation, editorial and the relations between ancestral technologies and the new technologies. We intend to verify how the art of typography is capable of producing singular poetic and editorial characteristics, such as the focus on the word traffic as the axis of the conception of a work.
Facing the technological advances, the Mansur’s work of typographer is marked by reinventions, which often consist exercises of creativity and materials and objects uses that resignify themselves. The legacy of the Typography of the Fund of Ouro Preto’ production is an important chapter to be investigated and circumscribed in the Brazilian editorial field, first because: (1) it is the source of studies on the contemporary edition that is born of the typographic arts and follows the course of the advance of the technological revolution that leads to the current conjuncture of the information age and media resources, with Mansur remaining active in his contemporaneous productions; (2) is a rare and relevant production of cultural, social, political and academic interest that exists outside the Rio-São Paulo axis.
The transition from the typography to the digital media is one of the Mansur’s facets that this research intends to propose, relating the forces of appropriation and incorporation of the preexisting technological knowledge, above all with types, and suitability to the digital environment. We understand that this proposal of experiment is adequate to the line of research IV - Studies of Edition, because it’s directly related to the study of the conditions of production and edition of books, of production and circulation of the literature with emphasis in the genre poetry, besides edition and circulation (photographs), as well as to analyze the influence of the new technologies in the process of artistic creation and diffusion, broadening the discussions about the cultural importance of the Mansur’s legacy.
