SUMMARY:

Ailton Krenak is an indigenous leader, environmentalist and writer. Currently, his books are among the best sellers of Companhia das Letras. Through the research project “From oral to written: a study on translation and graphic design in books by Ailton Krenak” we intend to study aspects of translation from oral to written and graphic design in the three books by Krenak published by Companhia das Letras — Ideas to postpone the end of the world (2019, 2020), Life is not useful (2020) and Tomorrow is not for sale (2021). In order to think of transcription as translation, the works of Roman Jakobson, Walter Benjamin and Jacques Derrida will be used. For the study of the graphic design of books and their dialogue with indigenous culture, semiotic and graphic design theory will be used, with emphasis on the works of Lucia Santaella and Richard Hendel, in addition to already consolidated research on literature and the book. indigenous, as in the works of Maria Inês de Almeida and Amanda Machado Alves de Lima. Decolonial thinking will run through the entire investigation, since the production of indigenous books starts from this path.
