SUMMARY:

Studies have been carried out on manga published in Brazil, but most of them focus on the area of the translation studies, with the absence of research focusing on the editorial aspects of such an object being observable. The present project proposes a research that will seek to investigate how the material characteristics and paratexts presents in the manga published by the JBC in tankoubon, half-tanko, wideban and kanzenban formats influence the readability of such works. We will observe the process of editing manga in printed format, based on the concept of paratext proposed by Genette (2009), as well as the guide to manga formats proposed by JBOX (2011) and the reflection of Dale and Chall (1949) about the readability to dwell on our object, the following titles: Bakuman, edited in tankoubon; Inu-Yasha, both in the half-tanko version and the wideban print, and Knights of the Zodiac in its kanzenban version. The objective of the proposed research is to identify how the material characteristics of each of the analyzed formats influence the understanding and reading speed of the analyzed works, in addition to verifying how the present paratexts also help the issue of understanding the titles and verifying whether they include some kind of extra material related to the work and how its presence or absence influences the maintenance of the reader's interest.
