Program for Undergraduate Students (PEC-G) and Portuguese as a Welcoming Language
(PLAc) for immigrants
Portuguese as a Welcoming Language; Exchange Program for Undergraduate
Students; Welcoming Actions.
Migratory movements have been intensifying in the contemporary world. There are
people who leave their countries because of wars, economic issues, natural catastrophes,
academic goals, among other reasons. Regarding to Brazil, the country has received
immigrants who, in order to adapt to the new reality, seek Portuguese courses. It is in this
context that this research is carried out, as we analyze two courses: Preparatory for the
Exchange Program for Undergraduate Students (PEC-G) and Portuguese as a Welcoming
Language (PLAc) for immigrants – offered by the Federal Center of Technological Education
of Minas Gerais (CEFET-MG). The courses have different proposals and both are offered
concomitantly in the institution. Thus, we seek, in this research, to identify and analyze the
welcoming actions effectively institutionalized within the scope of the two courses. The
results point to different welcoming actions, as well as actions that converge. Parallel to this,
both courses contribute to the integration of foreign students in the academic community, in
addition to expanding the international and intercultural competence of the institution.
