“Os Karas” by Pedro Bandeira: an analysis of the book series editions
Edition; Graphic project; Paratext; Literature for young people; Os karas.
The book series “Os Karas”, written by Pedro Bandeira and published by Moderna, debuted in 1984 with The Drug of Obedience, considered a classic of Brazilian literature for young people. The book series consists of six titles well known to the school audience. During the last thirty years, several editions have been published that underwent significant changes, mainly in the graphic projects and paratexts of the books. This project analyzes the editions of the book series in order to identify the possible changes in the conceptions of young people in the graphic projects and paratexts of each title and to evaluate the reasons that led to them. The theoretical foundation on literature for young people brings readings by Ceccantini (2008), Aguiar (2012), Lajolo and Zilberman (1999 and 2017). In the field of edition, it works with the studies of Hendel (2006), Powers (2008) and Genette (2009).
