Critical possibilities within English private courses: the textbook as a transformation device
textbook; postmethod; critical pedagogy.
Considering the massive usage of textbooks in the context of private English schools, this research aims to answer if there are possibilities of critical English teaching within these private schools, through the usage of textbooks and considering the postmethod condition. In order to do that, the intention it is to understand the usage of textbooks and most importantly, their possible adaptations. The intention is to conduct interviews with fifteen private school teachers that will answer questions about how they use textbooks inside the classroom and will also evaluate the viability of applying adapted lessons takenfrom textbooks that have as their goal to narrow down the distance between English teaching and a possible criticality. It is believed this study is very important because it could demonstrate how textbook adaptations, minor changes, opportunities and teacher’s agency could make possible a more open to dialogue and questioning teaching.
