RESUMO:

The end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st witnessed great shifts in the interactional and communicational social patterns, mostly due to the use of the available digital technology. Its democratization has been changing the way people are currently producing meaning (KRESS, 1996; 2003; 2010). Within this context, Kalantzis and Cope (2009) acknowledge the emergence of a participatory generation at schools, characterized by an agentive and autonomous posture demonstrated by students, making it impossible for the traditional authoritarian teaching, still teacher centered, to survive from now on, breaking with the predominant nineteenth century paradigm that teaching is, mainly, the transfer of knowledge. In order to understand the meaning production made currently by teenage students in the countryside of Minas Gerais, Brazil, it is proposed now to conduct a research of an applied nature, qualitative approach and exploratory orientation, in the form of a Case Study. The study will count on the voluntary participation of about 10 English students aged between 12 and 16, enrolled in a private language course in the city of Matozinhos/MG. Empirical research will be done through the collection of two home videos created by the participants in two different moments of the school semester, as well as the collection of a semi-structured interview with each of the participants at the end of the semester. It is expected to identify with this analysis: (1) how each type of literacy manifests itself in the videos; (2) whether there is a development of multiliteracies by the students and, if so, how; and (3) whether these participants can be recognized as belonging to the participatory generation, as theorized by Cope and Kalantzis (2010) and Kalantzis and Cope (2012).
