ILLUSTRATION creation processes in award-winning and illustrated books by women Project
Illustration, Women Illustrators, Creative Process, Transduction
The theme of this research is illustration. The main objective is to investigate the place that
occupy the illustrations in the books and how the process of creation and transduction of the
verbal text into visual by the illustrator. Therefore, as an object of study, will be
analyzed the illustrators and their respective works awarded in the Jabuti Award, in the
category Illustration, from 2010 to 2020. In order to reflect some aspects
referring to books that contain illustrations and their creation process, this analysis is
gives from two perspectives. First, I consider that the creation of the illustration
part of a verbal text and its appropriation by the illustrator occurs impregnated with
experiences, memories and knowledge, in which the subject transforms, adds and
translates one language into another. Second, the notion that illustration does more
than visually representing the written text, considering it as an element that
transforms the original text, supplanted by power, protagonism, expressive resource and
semantic innovation. Considering that the illustration occupies different forms within
a work, I aim to understand how its process takes place from an interview with the
selected illustrators. It is hoped that this research can contribute to expand and
deepen the discussion about illustration, creative process and text transduction
verbal into visual.
