SCIENTIFIC JOURNALS AND EDITING STUDIES
scientific journals; editorial policies; editing studies
An analysis of the editorial practices, processes and policies of high-impact online Brazilian scientific journals in the field of Linguistics and Literature Abstract: Scientific journals and the publication of articles have become central elements in the process of scientific communication throughout the 20th century and in the transition to the 21st. This process, which already had great importance in STEM, has gained prominence in recent decades in the so-called Human Sciences (including Human Sciences, Applied Social Sciences, Arts and Literature), especially due to the pressure of national and international assessment systems, in the Brazilian case through to CAPES. In the ongoing research, we seek to characterize the recurring elements in Brazilian journals, online, in the evaluation area 'Linguistics and Literature', of high impact, based on their editorial guidelines, practices, processes and policies. For this, the history of discussions and changes in Qualis, the criticisms made to this system, reflections on the work of editing journals (often presented in the Editorial section) and discussions on impact are mobilized. In addition, the journals in the area were mapped (the process has already been completed), the collection of information on editorial policies from the journals' websites is being carried out, and online questionnaires will be applied (sent to all journals in the area) and interviews with editorial teams of high-impact journals (considering the main bibliometric indexes used by the evaluation systems and the presence in highly relevant indexes) – the questionnaire and the interviews will focus on the editorial strategies mobilized by the teams. It is intended that at the end of the research, all data will be made available in a research data repository (open data), in line with the dimensions of Open Science (Open Science) and meeting the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) . We intend that, at the end of the research path, we have elements that help us to answer the question: what are the editorial strategies (guidelines, practices, processes and editorial policies) implemented so that a scientific journal stands out in the area of Letters (Linguistics and Literature)
