SUMMARY:

For several years, technology has been gaining more and more space in people's daily lives and promoting social changes. As students arrived after the 2000s and grew up in the digital age, it is important for teachers to be aware of this fact and update their methodologies in the classroom. Still in the last century, authors such as Vygotsky (1987, 1988), John Dewey (1959, 1979), Brian Street (2014), Paulo Freire (1983, 2000, 2003, 2005, 2011, 2012), Magda Soares (2002, 2003, 2017), Ângela Kleiman (1995), Roxane Rojo (2010, 2012, 2013), among others, already warned about how knowledge should be passed on to students, since they are not just recipients of knowledge. If what the student is studying does not make sense to him or if he cannot use this knowledge in his daily life, learning is not fully automated, that is, he needs to be a literate individual, who will use his knowledge critically. As the student is not an empty void to be filled with knowledge, that is, as he already has prior knowledge, and also because he is surrounded by technology, active methodologies, coined by authors such as José Moran (2015, 2018), Lilian Bacich (2018, 2013), Antônio Nóvoa (2022), José Armando Valente (2014, 2017, 2018), are an excellent ally in this process, because, through them, the student builds his knowledge and this has meaning in his life. These methodologies and literacy are in line with the official document used by all Brazilian schools, the National Common Curricular Base – BNCC (2018). This qualitative and applied research aims to reflect on how elementary school teachers in the final years can use active methodologies in order to provide students with opportunities to develop their literacy skills.
