SUMMARY:

This research investigates how text producers incorporate practices or subvert the algorithmic
mediation logics, imposed by the Google, to achieve visibility in the digital environment. The
intertwining of text and technology creates new value chains for the flow of production,
circulation and reading, in particular, the reconfiguration of the writing and editing process to
meet the contingent demands of online platforms. We argue that a new digital culture, crossed
by the materiality of online platforms, changes dynamics of selection, organization, curation,
access and navigation of online texts. We seek to understand how Google's operation and
policies determine text relevance metrics in a digital environment, thus conditioning
producers to shape their creations with aesthetic and linguistic parameters in search of
performance. The research is supported by Text Linguistics associated with technology issues
to anchor discussions on post-platform text and the reconfiguration of writing and editing
practices. It also brings as methodological inspirations the Platform Studies, Critical
Algorithm Studies and Digital Methods, which have conceptual matrices originating from
Science and Technology Studies (STS); in addition to Web Search Studies, which feed on
ideas from the field of Information Retrieval (IR). As a methodology, it is proposed the
integration of qualitative methods: a) research and analysis in Google documents, with focus
on governance; b) analysis of writing practices in a digital environment, applying reverse
engineering to infer algorithmic mediations. As a partial result, in relation to Google's
perception of governance, it was revealed that the stages of selection and classification of
texts, as well as the metrics of quality and authority of pages and contents are generating new
modes of writing that focus on texts capable of responding to the relevance of audiences and
the relevance of algorithms.
